We had the good fortune of connecting with Robyn Gray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robyn, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was the freedom to be creative and create new rules and boundaries on earning income and developing people while meeting the needs of a community. Initially I wasn’t certain if I had what it took to thrive and grow but I have a very optimistic outlook on life and my developing skill set over time within my business has shown that I can do this and I am doing this.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is unique in the sense that I am the owner of Gray Fit Training a Sports Performance Fitness company that trains athletes to prepare them to play at the next level year round. I am also the owner of Elixir Muscle Recovery which is a franchise that offers the most advanced athletic recovery therapies for everyone. I’m most proud that I was able to open my doors for my Elixir Muscle Recovery franchise in January of 2021 right at the cusps of the pandemic. Who knew that we would be placed in a time capsule for a full year and have to pivot with our initial plans. Today, I have managed to survive the changes of not only State mandates and closures but locations being sold to relocate and start fresh again without missing a beat.
Ive made it today business-wise because of my mentors and my amazing staff. Being an entrepreneur has never been easy. You get weary, tired and uncertain but the minute you walk into your place of business there’s a newness that overcomes you and you just push forward. I’v overcome challenges by increasing my faith and walk with God. Asking my church leadership team for extra prayer and being specific with what I wanted prayer for and about. Also, having a praying mother goes far beyond what I could ever ask for because her prayers didn’t start yesterday but years ago when I was born.
Lessons that I have learned along the way is that its ok to cry and its ok to ask for help. You won’t be an expert in everything but there’s resources and help out there for you, if you ask for it and get out of your own way. I’ve learned that using SBA, SCORE and The Dallas Black Chamber of Commerce goes a long way. Attending networking events and remembering everything is in the follow-up and follow-through. I stay in my own lane, I work silently and I pray and manifest everything in my life and those in it. Who would have thought that a kid raised in the projects of San Antonio, raised by a single mom with 7 siblings would be the owner of two small businesses with 9 employees and ,making a huge change in the community with our purpose of reaching youth and developing caring productive citizens.
I want the world to know that I’ve trained the likes of many greats and I’ve performed muscle recovery on some of the top athletes in the country but I’m still humble and selfless. I’m an expert at what I do and you won’t find another person who cares more about your child and you as a person than anyone else because it’s bigger than the dollar; it’s about building my longterm family of clients. My brand, Gray Fit Training has been a pioneer in the DFW area for years which was founded in 2014. I’ve silently influenced a ton of Fitness professionals in the DFW area and how they run their business or the services they offer. Being one of the first to add state of the art muscle recovery services to fitness is a huge bonus for athletes in our area ad I plan to continue to influence the way we play sports and take care of our bodies even if you are a former athlete. Muscle recovery can give each of us longevity with just 15 minutes of treatment.
I’m Coach Robyn and I will continue to uplift our communities with exceptional services in the fitness and muscle recovery world by bridging the gaps to make a better athlete for tomorrow.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting the DFW area I would definitely take them to Trinity Grove because the businesses there are up and coming and local and the entertainment and food is great with amazing views at night of the City skyline. We would also go to Deep Ellum area and hang out. We would have to hit up Journey Fit and get a great workout in with Victoria because no one does group fitness better than she does in the DFW.
A spiritual visit to Concord Church is a must with Pastor Bryan Carter. There’s always something exciting going on and with the rebranding of Red Bird Mall area things are looking great for our city.
For relaxation we may go to Spa Castle and relax in all the hot tubs and saunas.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shout out Cosmo Clarke the owner of Clark Athletics and Zarin Gracey who is an executive pastor at Concord Church and former Director of Business Diversity for the City of Dallas. Cosmo gave me my start in Dallas by hiring me as a trainer for his hockey program where we trained the hockey teams on dry land for their strength and conditioning. It was his extreme knowledge base that I learned how to develop Sports Performance programs for athletes throughout the DFW area all year round. He never gave up on his core values of training athletes for life. He always mentored me anytime and was willing to share the “other side” of opening a business with little capital and how to find great talent. Zarin, my brother from another mother is just a guru when it comes to numbers and financials. His genuine desire to see me excel at becoming an entrepreneur and capitalizing on the programming the city has to offer minority business owners goes unmatched. He has been selfless, and keeps God first in everything he teaches. Without these two in my life and my silent investor I would never be where I am today.
