We had the good fortune of connecting with Ritu Kumar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ritu, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think ,the single most important factor behind my success is my ability to be flexible with single goal of meeting customers requirements. In early days my artistic instinct used to make me very rigid and any major deviation from my thought process was very hard for me to work with , but then I realized that I am in the business of providing product & services to customers , my responsibility lies in providing right suggestions/options and great quality products keeping customers needs as the north star. If & when I feel that I am missing /not creating anything new , I paint for myself –:).
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My specialty is painting on canvas, using variety of mediums like Acrylic & Oil and techniques like impasto, fluid art, texturing etc. I have painted so many different styles like Abstract, Contemporary, Landscape and Indian ethnic & their modern interpretations. I also offer, custom painting service, and most of my sold work has been custom. I think what sets me apart is keeping customer engaged from conceptualization to completion , work with them through out the process ,understand their needs like existing décor, rooms, sometimes visit their homes as well and provide my recommendation. This is such a satisfying experience. This Art business is very competitive specially this digital world , where the competition is global and It is marathon that takes a lot of patience , perseverance and innovation along the way to make a name & brand. The biggest lesson learned , focus on quality of Art & service and commercial will follow (not the other way around).
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many of stereotypes about Dallas, Texas. mostly people think of BBQ, cowboys & Big malls, but there’s so much more to it than that. Thanks to the city’s size and numerous nearby suburbs, there are so many fun things to do in Dallas that it’s often difficult to choose. If you are a foodie, there are tons of restaurant all around, if you like Indian food, I don’t think any other city offers so much variety , some of my favorites are Chennai Cafe, Frisco, Saravana Bhavan , Sankalp ,Plano, Honest, Agha juice to name a few. Some of my recommendations if you are around Dallas, Fort Worth Stockyards Dallas Farmers Market Bishop Arts District Deep Ellum Klyde Warren Park Legacy West , Plano specially Food Court. Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden McKinney Avenue Trolley AT&T Stadium Reunion Tower Pioneer Plaza The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is so true, success is always collective and so many people to thank, first & foremost – my customers who not only buy but also provide references, my immediate family – my husband Neeraj , my kids Shreyas & Navya and my parents who supported me during formation years and still continue to do and finally my friends here who have always been encouraging & supportive.
