We had the good fortune of connecting with Rita Vicari and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rita, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
I have so many quotes that I absolutely love but there is one very simple quote that I keep telling myself in any situation of a simple setback or even a big failure. It is: you didn’t come this far to only come this far. I wanted to quit so many times (mostly in the beginning) when success was not coming for a long time. But I already invested my time, my energy, finances so why would I stop before I saw the fruits of my hard work? I think it’s important to remember not to stop and just keep going and see where it takes you. Because I do not believe that if you put in time and hard work into something, you can fail. Failure is just a part of the process not a result of what you do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I never imagined myself being an artist. It was never my goal or my vision for my future self. I studied psychology and was a professional dancer. But life led me to moving to a different country, study a foreign language, leave my family and friends and start from zero. So art became more of way to spend time and get some sense of progress. I always had vivid imagination and loved telling stories with everything that I was creating (choreography, writing poems) but like every starting creative my skills were not aligned with my vision so there was a lot of impatience and frustration. I am happy I kept going. I am proud that I didn’t quit. The most important thing that every creative should work towards is to find true authentic voice and style, dive deep into inner self and get vulnerable. It is hard but without it, the work we create will have no soul. My art is my vision of life, dreamy scenes, pictures of what I find beautiful in this world and our life. I always strive towards being the best version of yourself and never stop dreaming. I always believed that something extraordinary is going to happen to me, that life will be so abundant and giving so I am here to receive all this and give it back with my art. I always paint in vivid, bright colors. That is a symbol for me that life it vivid and we need to unfold our enormous potential and live our colorful lives.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am relatively new to Dallas but there are a few events and places I like visiting. First, is Dallas zoo. One of the most amazing zoos I have visited! Then of course art shows and festivals. My favorite is the Other Art Fair, amazing upper level art fair for art lovers, artists and art collectors. Absolutely love Canvas Hotel for the view on Dallas and their love for art. Definitely love all the immersive exhibitions like Van Gogh and Frida Khalo as well as impressionist. One of the cool places to go on the weekend is At&T discovery district. They have so many great events and the place is just beautiful.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Milan art institute is a school where I learned most of my skills and got the knowledge how to become a professional artist in one year. I took it and never stopped creating art or question whether I chose the right path.
