We had the good fortune of connecting with Rickie Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rickie, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
There’s never a time an artist in the entertainment business doesn’t question wether they should keep going or not. We have to fully invest so much time and energy, that everyday we’re hoping we get that one phone call that pays the big bucks. It a mission, a true life’s work and the more you question, the more you won’t become invested. For me personally, that’s how I like to think about it. That one day something of my work will be recognized. I have to stay motivated by even pretending sometimes that I’ve already made it because I am enjoying what I am doing and there are even the smallest few people who support me. to have even one person believing in you, makes it all the better. Someone is always watching, and that it more the reason to keep going and to never give up on what you love to do.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Well, I am a singer first and an actor second. I have always enjoyed singing because it’s like an outer body experience for me. Putting smiles on the faces of the people watching always creates a huge warmth over me. I am most proud of how far I have came, to the fact that it’s taken me places I would’ve never thought. I never thought people would even want to listen to some guy like me who loves singing to tell a story then creating the next big hit sensation. I got to this place by definitely working hard consistently. I was always writing or coming up with a song to sing. It was my dream, and I wanted to always make sure I achieved it in the best way. There were many moments that definitely discouraged me but I was able to navigate a way to ignore it. I didn’t need a validation or permission to do what I loved, just someone who wanted to listen. What I have learned along the way, is that I cannot stop. I have a voice and passion for entertaining, My lesson has always been, no matter what don’t stop singing. The world needs music, and I’ll be one of the million who’ll give it to them. What I would love for people to know about my story is that I have everything I need to move a person to joy. When I sing, you’ll feel more then just goosebumps but maybe even the emotion I am giving off in song. I love to sing and I plan on doing it for as long as I live.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the are, we would definitely have to eat wings. I don’t know why I enjoy them so but when you get wings from Flavors in Arlington, it’ll be some of the best! My friends and I always enjoy drinks either at Billy Bob’s or a local bar that has karaoke. Dallas offers some of the best places for those fun, intoxicating nights! Some of the best places to visit would be Downtown Dallas or even Downtown Fort Worth. There’s multiple places for live music and even dancing under cool lights!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Rickie Jones would never be Rickie Jones if it wasn’t for the endless support of family and friends. It’s with there constant messages of encouragment and faith that keeps me going. My mom will text me at any point telling me how my song has lifted the spirits of someone around her or even a friend who’s playing my song while making a funny video to commemorate it. I can’t forget fans around the world, though there isn’t tons of thousands I have enough that keeps me in the spirit of singing my heart out. More than even a little credit my belief of a higher power always keeps me going. There’s a purpose I have on my life and I am fully committed to believing that is spreading love and laughter with my voice.
