We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricki Wax and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ricki, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I love this quote I saw on Linkedin from Leandrew Robinson, an entrepreneur and CEO which says- “Remember you are enough. The good stuff comes from knowing yourself and acknowledging the unique value your bring to the table.”
I firmly believe successful business owners lead with their truth and authenticity. This is what has led me to becoming a well known career coach in such a saturated market. My coaching style and techniques come from personal experiences being a woman in the workplace. My path into Corporate America wasn’t linear at all, I took a lot of jobs just to make ends meet, I took out student loans, and changed my major six times in college. I had no idea what God was setting up for my future. All of those experiences helped shaped who I’ve become today and who I’m evolving into for tomorrow.
My experiences taught me to have humility in all situations, compassion for customers, a strong work ethic, gratitude in everything I do and most of all empathy for people. As long as I continue to trust myself and my journey- this will always be my unique value add to any company or business venture I set out to achieve. There can only be one me.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At my consulting company, I am most proud of the life changing stories which I hear from my customers. When most people come to me, either they’re not enjoying their current role, fresh out of college, or making a huge career shift into the tech space and really don’t know where to start. It feels absolutely amazing when someone signs an offer making 3x more than they’ve ever made in their entire life! Literally breaking generational curses while generating financial freedom and the fact I am able to be a part of their journey amazes me.
When I first started in business, it wasn’t easy. I had a lot of fear of failing. I didn’t think my ideas were good enough to monetize nor like my voice would offer anything different to the world. My biggest obstacle was me. I had to affirm that “I AM ENOUGH”. My voice matters and I deserve to share my story with the world. You never know what chains you are unlocking for someone else who may be experiencing the same thing.
Getting out of my own way was one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned. I still struggle with taking big risks and fear of failing, but I’ve learned to embrace life as it comes and give myself grace when an idea doesn’t pan out.
I want the world to know- always believe in yourself and tune out the noise. Ricki Wax consulting remains true to herself and always shows up her authentic self in coaching sessions, workshops, keynotes etc. Your voice is the one thing this world can’t take from you. So trust yourself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I think some of my favorite places to see in Dallas are pretty touristy. Growing up in Dallas you never really do the tourist things- almost take them for granted. If I was with my BF I’d take them to see Downtown for sure. Reunion tower, JFK Assassination area and museum, and The West End.
For bars and nightlife, definitely Deep Ellum can’t go wrong with the rooftop bars and views.
Star attractions- must see Cowboys stadium in Arlington and the square out in Frisco.
Favorite Food places- Lolo’s chicken and waffles, Waffle house- classic, Breadwinners always a hit.
Last but not least- desert- Cauldron Ice Cream off 75. Red velvet cone with the cookies and cream!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a special shoutout to the Black Googler Network. This group of amazing leaders has shown me how vast our network and reach stretches. The world is our oyster and there are endless opportunities to continue to pour into yourself. You can have both a 9-5 and a 5-9 in order to create the life you deserve.
