We had the good fortune of connecting with Richard Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Richard, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I decided it was time to take starting my own business seriously when I was asked in more than one interview, “Why haven’t you started your own business?” I guess I thought if more than one business owner was asking me the question, maybe they see something in me that I don’t fully recognize. Maybe it’s time.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Richard Miller Custom Homes is a luxury custom homebuilder that specializes in select large new construction projects for discerning clients. We chose our projects and our clients carefully and it results in the creation of some amazing homes. I started my career with a production home builder where I learned to build up to 30 homes at a time by myself in a relatively short period of time. It taught me the value of efficiency, organization, and customer service. I then went to work for some of the best high end builders in Dallas and learned how to execute the details that make luxury homes stand out. It wasn’t easy. There were lots of sleepless nights and challenges that had to be overcome. I overcame the challenges by being willing to work harder and longer than the next guy, and by patience and tenacity when seeking the solution to a problem. I learned that a little effort in planning pays off in the execution. I learned that it’s better to overcommunicate than to leave something open to interpretation. I learned at the end of the day, it’s a blessing to be building cool projects for cool homeowners, and to enjoy the proccess.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to thank my family and all the mentors and friends that have supported my success over the years. There have been times where success seemed far away, but my family and friends never wavered in their support and encouragement.
