We had the good fortune of connecting with Rhonda McTyre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rhonda, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from a small town from East, Texas called Jefferson. I grew up in a big family of 8: 6 boys 2 girls. Raised by a single mother who worked her behind off to help put food on the table and care for her kids. Growing up in a small town wasn’t too bad, Everyone pretty much knew your first and last name and who your mom or dad was. My Mother taught me how to get by in life but didn’t prepare me for the process of how to get by in life such as savings and investments for your future. But she taught me how she grew up. I never thought in a million years I would be modeling in magazines, walking runways, or becoming beauty of the month for a major magazine. My story to every young girl even older you can be saved and slay a runway. As I reflect on where I came from it help mold me into the woman I am today. My testimony will help impact many still struggling.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One thing I get a lot of questions about is what sets you apart from everybody else. I always tell them ” I want to be known as the barrier breaker, chain breaker, story changer, stereotype of a plus-size model. I’m not one of those you see and book one time. I will be one of those that you continue to use and will challenge you and you will challenge me to go further than anything. This type of industry isn’t easy but knowing you have God in your corner he will open up a multitude of doors, you wouldn’t even imagine the hinges coming off. One quote I always live by is ” Choose to be different, choose to be unique, choose to be the one standing in the crowd dancing, while others or standing still”. My brand will break barriers one day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow, I would definitely take them out to eat at Klyde Warren Park every day to get a feel of the food trucks, introduce them to something new on a different level than eating in restaurants, tour the city on a minibus, of course, take her shopping at different markets. I’ve never eaten at the huge ball downtown. So we will definitely be going there
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to give a shout-out home town Jefferson, TX big supporters and to my family, I know they’re pretty much tired of me asking them to help get my makeup done. Shout out to my church family Kingdom Worship Connection, they have been a huge asset in my career ever since I got started, My mentor Lady Rhoda Kines she has definitely helped me through so many tough times, and having that genuine spiritual motherly love to help me through. My Pastor Trica Butcher has shown me so much love like a daughter and guidance to always put God first in everything. Huge shoutout to the one who referred yall to me Cameron.
