We had the good fortune of connecting with Reon Eaton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reon, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have been in the restaurant industry since I was in high school (since around 2012). I was accepted in the culinary magnet at Richardson High School, in North Dallas. I worked in every part of a restaurant from hosting to bartending. In 2020, I had just graduated college and came back to Dallas. The pandemic really changed a lot in the restaurant industry. A lot of restaurants had closed their doors, but that’s all I knew. A friend from college had told me about a restaurant/bar opening, in Deep Ellum. I jumped on the chance to do what I knew and also work in one of the most popular spots in Dallas. I was hired as a server, but I really wanted to try being behind the bar for the first time. Bartenders have always been interesting to me. Bartending seemed fun, fast-paced and overall exciting. I would always ask my manager to give me a chance behind the bar, to no avail.
One day, it was one our busiest days but we were short handed. I finally saw my opportunity to get behind the bar. That day I offered a helping hand and never turned back. That was a day that honestly changed my life. I was finally doing something I loved. I love the atmosphere behind the bar; I love meeting all the new faces; and most importantly I love making amazing cocktails. Being a bartender gave me purpose in the restaurant industry again.
For the last 3 years, I have cultivated my skills as a bartender. I believe I am one of the best in Dallas not just of skill, but because of my passion. Working in restaurants having been amazing, but I knew I could do more. So many people from friends and family are always asking me about bartending tips and complimenting me on my skills. I felt could offer more than just working in a restaurant bar. I have trained so many other bartenders over the years. Understanding what I bring to bartending and what I can offer, I decided to bet on myself. I started a traveling bartending service in memory of my late grandmother (Crystol Page). My company Crystol Bartending is my passion. I love every moment. It’s ups and downs, but it’s all worth it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is built on pure passion and determination. I have worked so hard to get to where I am. I never received a handout and it was not easy getting people to realize my skill. I am young so sometimes people don’t trust my experience. I worked hard to gain so much skill and I still continuing to learn and grow. Crystol Bartending is different from competitors because as a business owner I am relatable and understanding to my customers. I’m not above or too out of reach. I answer all inquiries. I am willing to work with my customers needs. I love customizing bar services for each and every event I am apart of. Every bar service is different. My creativity shines when I work with my customers.
I am still growing I’ve only been in official business since June 2023. The first few months were tough. Getting clients was difficulty. Branding was difficult. Start up cost were high and funding was low. Eventually, I began to get clients. Experience has taught me so much more than any training could have ever. I am finally getting in the grove of things, bumps in the road are unavoidable but getting over them is what creates our company’s personality and teaches me as a business owner so much. I’ve learned to appreciate the journey of business ownership. My business degree could have never prepared me for actual business ownership. The experience will show me.
I want the world to know my company is an amazing bar service with an amazing team that strives to satisfy all our customers. We want to enhance every event we’re apart of.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a Dallas native so I have a lot of spots I love! I will just talk about my favorites a the moment. Deep Ellum is my favorite strip to head to to bar hop. I has so many different bars and restaurants that so many different people can enjoy. Bars such as Vidorra, for some good Mexican cuisine and good drinks. Punch Bowl Social for a fun time, good food and great cocktails. I would also visit Select Start to experience a fun arcade bar. Deep Ellum has so much to offer.
I would also visit Daily TX Clothing store in Bishop Arts area of Dallas. This store has amazing street wear from LA, New York and even right here in Dallas. Daily is a must visit for anyone visiting Dallas. Not only the merchandise but people there are amazing. The environment is welcoming and everyone there feels like your homegirl or homeboy from down the street.
The last place I would say is a must visit is Klyde Warren Park in Downtown Dallas. This is an amazing park area that homes an abundance of food trucks and amazing restaurants such as a Southern cuisine restaurant, YardBird. Klyde Warren park has amazing atmosphere. People are always there just hanging out.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate my shoutout to my late Grandmother Crystol Page. My grandmother passed in 2018 and she is the main inspiration to deciding to start a business and bet on myself. My grandmother always believe in me. She was one of my biggest cheerleaders. I named my company after her because she was always a great time with amazing energy. I wish she could be here to experience my success with me, but I will use my company to keep her spirit alive. People who never even experienced her will be saying her name.
