We had the good fortune of connecting with RecNotKnown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi RecNotKnown, how does your business help the community?
Starlet exists as a beacon for all of the very unique music that is based here in Fort Worth. Although Starlet has connections from Los Angeles to Miami to even South Korea, the label very much has its’ roots in this wonderful city I call home. Ultimately the end goal of it all is to break down all the doors that are preventing the electronic and pop music scenes from really thriving down here, and I believe so far we are on track to doing just that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always existed in a lane that was rather niche creatively. My influences are all over the place being born in New York and getting raised in the south with Haitian parents, you get exposed to a lot of different aspects of culture and that pokes it’s head out a lot in my music! I got to where I’m at professionally because of the opportunities that were given to me to produce for other artists. If it were not for Lucky Girl and them approaching me for production assistance I don’t think I would be anywhere near where I’m at right now with the label, so really big shoutout to them. It wasn’t an easy road to cross but I overcame the struggles by being resilient and persistent and knowing what I wanted to do in life. When I made Starlet Is Online, the idea behind it was to build a label that created and promoted the sound of the future in a city that I believe was not getting attention in the conversation of music. Now, about one year removed from the beginnings of the label, I can already feel that conversation beginning to be had.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, for food specifically I’d take them to Umami Bistro on West 7th Street, it’s an amazing Japanese restaurant with great atmosphere and great service. I think Downtown Fort Worth is a great place to just walk around and visit local stores and do snack runs. I definitely would also recommend going to The Modern on Darnell to see the really striking modern art pieces that are on display! The Botanic Garden as well is definitely a great place to go if you want to have a picnic and sit in the sun and escape the city for a bit.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to give a shoutout to the people who always believed in my creative vision, all my Starlet Is Online crew, you guys know who you are. I would not be here without y’all and I appreciate the opportunities you guys have given me as a creative.
