We had the good fortune of connecting with Ray Solomon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ray, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I decided to go into the locksmith and security industry I had a tunnel vision like mindset to achieve success. I’ll be honest, at the time I did not have any type of roadmap to how I would achieve that. However, through trial and error over the last several years I have realized that I can define success as the ability to utilize my full potential in building a company that I’m proud of.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I like to think what sets my business apart from others is my continued drive to be honest and promote the emphasis of customer satisfaction. I constantly remind my team of the importance of seeing customers as family, not solely as a source of income. I am proud to say I have formed so many meaningful relationships with customers I have met throughout the years. Many of them I can now count as my close friends. I can say getting to the place of growth I am at today was not easy due to being comparatively young and not having as much experience as peers in my industry. I overcame these challenges through consultation and advice from others within the Locksmith and Security industry. I also knew when to check my insecurities as well as my ego at the door by becoming comfortable with reaching out for advice. I want the world to know that failure is a stepping stone of success. I have had my share of failures throughout the years and I have grown to see them as learning points on my journey.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would have to say Dallas has an endless supply of amazing cuisine and activities. I was born and raised in Israel, and I often have friends and family come in from out of the country. I make it a point to take guests to eat at the Maple Leaf Diner for breakfast/brunch. Their homemade jam and pastries are amazing, but the best part of the experience of eating there is the wonderful customer service they provide. A visit to Dallas would not be complete without a visit to the Farmers Market in downtown Dallas. The fresh fruits, veggies, and handmade goods cannot be found anywhere else. Finally, I love to support fellow small businesses which includes my good friend Nuno’s vegan restaurant (which shares his name). Their take on a Crunchwrap is delicious.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Rich Dad Poor Dad Wife
Over the past several years I have had the pleasure of interacting with many influential people in the Security and Locksmith industry. When I first started my company, I was in my early 20’s. I had a dream but little direction. I dedicated myself towards reading and studying books on various topics such as money management, financial literacy, and leadership. One book I can really credit to my success to is Rich DadPoor Dad. This book taught me the difference between having the mindset of being a worker dependent on the system to being an entrepreneur.
I also cannot have a conversation about success without crediting my wife who has motivated, inspired, and facilitated growth throughout my journey as, not only a business owner, but as a person.
