We had the good fortune of connecting with Raul Cruz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Raul, what matters most to you?
The most important value is that I discovered what I was passionate about since I was a child, thanks to that I had a very solid concept of the value of time and how important it is to try to control our tribal and biological needs, and nurture the artistic and intellectual ones.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
a) We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others

To have the fortune of having found a great combination of two themes that gave my work identity. Mesoamerican cultures from my country, such as the Mayan or Aztec, viewed from a science fiction and fantasy context.

b) What you are most proud of or excited about

Having started from scratch and gaining respect and recognition as an artist, in a country where it is very difficult to stand out without being part of a powerful group.

c) How did you get to where you are today professionally?

With a lot of effort to learn and practice what I learned, convinced that there are different ways to create a work of art, motivated by my passion.

d) Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?

Well, we would have to define what is meant by “easy”.
For me, I’m so passionate about creating art that the word “difficult” does not have a specific place in my narrative.

Of course it has been hard work, but it is a process that I really enjoy.

e) What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?

Every effort, however minimal it may seem, counts, and that there are no rewards or punishments, only consequences.

f) What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?

That I chose to be happy, doing what I love and I was not wrong.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in a beautiful and huge city, with a glorious heritage and impressive modernity.

First, I would take my friend to know the impressive vestiges of the ancient mainly Aztec cities.

We would eat in the restaurant sitting in front of a large window overlooking the archaeological sites.

Then I would take him to art museums, which are many in my city.

And finally it would take you to know the huge skyscrapers of the city center.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thanks to my parents, sisters and brother. They have always supported me
