We had the good fortune of connecting with RaSheena Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi RaSheena, is there something you believe many others might not?
One piece of conventional advice that I would disagree with is “waiting until all of the pieces of the plan are in place before starting your new venture, career, or business” I would say that I disagree with that advice because it doesn’t matter how much you plan, lief always has a curve ball to throw at you that wasn’t in the plan. Do we give up because our plans had to change? or do we adjust the plan to move forward? If we keep waiting for everything to line up perfectly, you will be waiting forever. Learn to pivot!
What should our readers know about your business?
I am a professional Real Estate Agent who loves helping people own their futures through the purchasing and selling of property whether its residential, commercial, or land. Although I am a fairly new agent, I am not new to this environment hailing over 12 years of property management expertise and over 20 years of administration experience. I have managed multiplexes with as many as 350 units. I have managed HOAs, as well as single family homes. I know the ins and outs of contracts, laws, the market, selling, and most of all people! I have learned to be passionate and personable but remain professional. I am most excited about the flexibility my career affords me. I love being able to do what I love, while still being present for my family. The transition from a standard 9 to 5 to being my own boss had its ups and downs and still does but I wouldn’t change it. The peace and tranquility that I have now has been worth the challenges I ‘ve endured. I have not overcome every challenge, but I have learned to catch my curve balls and pivot. One thing I have learned is to keep people around me that are doing something, making good use of their time. Their strive helps keep me focused and pushes me to keep going. One thing I would like people to know about me or my story is that “It’s ok, to choose yourself” That doesn’t mean to be selfish and only think about yourself, but it’s ok to pour the same love and effort that you pour into others, into yourself.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I were hosting a friend for a week, I would make sure that we had really flavorful food to enjoy from places like Yaard Bak and Sabor Vybz, those are two really great Caribbean spots that I enjoy. There is also First Watch that has great breakfast and lunch. Think of an upscale Panera. My newest place I have been frequenting is Noodles Cafe, it’s a Thai/Koren restaurant that is easily becoming one of my favorite places. A few places to hang out would be Brin’s Wings and the Alley, downtown. You’ll get good food, drinks, entertainment, and night life. Lastly, I would take them to the Legacy Museum. It is such a powerful emotional experience that details the beginning of American slavery all the way to Jim Crow and Mass Incarceration. Definitely an emotional roller coaster but worth learning the history that is sometimes hidden in plain sight.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would absolutely like to shout out God first and foremost! Without Him, I am nothing. My faith keeps me grounded even in the hard seasons. Next, none other than my amazing husband, Dr. Kelvin M. Jones II. He has been my rock. His mere presence creates a calm for any storm. He always pushes me to be the best version of myself. I would also like to shout out my two beautiful children Karter (8) and Kayleigh (7). They are the reason I work hard every day. I am trying my best to model an example of good work ethics for them, but I also want to be someone they can be proud of. My parents, Kevin and Anita Dumpson have always supported me in anything that I do. Even though I am a married adult, they still send me encouraging letters, texts, and calls letting me know how proud they are of me. Lastly but certainly not least, my siblings (best friend and in-laws) Christina, Jacqueline, Yolanda, and Yusef. They are my pep squad, sounding board, and cheering committee. They make sure I pursue my dreams, hold me accountable, and make sure I have fun while doing it. As you can see, I have a village, and I am grateful for all of them.
