We had the good fortune of connecting with Ranin Karim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ranin, what do you attribute your success to?
Authenticity. Wahidon is an extension of who I am as an artist and creating jewelry is the medium I choose to express my passions to the world. What sets Wahidon apart from other brands is the pulse of staying true to my authentic self, going against the current to create beautiful pieces for everyone to wear and experience without conforming to mainstream trends.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
All of my jewelry is handcrafted, my creative process begins with wax carvings. Wahidon is a quality controlled brand, everything is made in New York City. Aesthetically Wahidon is in its own category because it is modern with a vintage touch. The brand carries two different collections, each one a reflection of my inspirations as an artist.

My first collection was inspired by exotic insects, as someone who grew up feeling ostracized by my culture and religion I wanted to embrace the “weirdness” of these creatures and thus ‘The Bug Collection’ was created as a representation of how different I felt during my upbringing. The second collection, ‘Arabic Al Alb Collection’ was inspired by my roots and Arab culture with my grandmother in mind, a woman who was always adorned with the finest pieces of gold jewelry; I was fascinated as a child with the way she would curate her accessories.

Running a brand is not an easy feat! Especially as a startup company, I wear a lot of different hats. Perfecting my craft has been a process of trial and error. Creating these pieces I have encountered hiccups when designing that have expanded my technical skill and craftsmanship.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely want to give a big shout out to Meital Steinberg Sigler (IG @meitallovejewelry) who has been a tremendous help in my jewelry journey and another huge shoutout to my amazing Goldsmith, Richard Parmaglow for the tips and precious gems (no pun intended) he drops when I’m coming up with new designs to create the perfect product.
