We had the good fortune of connecting with Randy Bush Jr. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Randy, can you share a quote or affirmation with us?
An affirmation/quote that I live by is that ”The dream is free, the hustle is sold separately” That means everyone can dream and aspire to be great, to become someone and do something amazing with their life but if there’s no action there’s no results. I’ve had to put in the work and I am still putting in the work to bring my dream to fruition. There have been set backs that have forced me to regroup and make some changes but I never stop and I don’t quit. I sacrifice and make decisions to ensure that Chef Randy and Meal Master sustain in this industry. I hustle, grind and keep moving no matter the obstacle and that’s what it means to put the hustle with the dream. The dream is great but after that there has to be some necessary work to match it, to make it be as amazing as you’d like it to be.

What should our readers know about your business?
Meal Master Meal Prep & Catering was created while I was sitting at a cubicle working in corporate America. I knew that where I was would not be my final destination and so I used that to fuel and fund my dream of entrepreneurship. The road has not been easy at all and definitely required me to do the work. Doing the work meant I had to sacrifice and be forever evolving and learning to master my craft to develop what is now a unique style. Meal Master today is a full service food experience that offers catering, gourmet meal prep, and private dining. My brand is unique in that there’s no taste like Meal Master style. We’re not just food we’re a business so I’ll be offering a line of seasonings, recipe books and a line of take home seafood boils in a bag. There’s so much more I have coming and its only up from here.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m from Detroit and have been in Dallas 8 years now so when I have visitors its typically family and they love to come here and have a good time. Usually they come and enjoy all the free food from Meal Master because I’m constantly making dishes and posting on social media so they are anxious to come experience whatever it is I feel like making. But when I’m taking a break we go out and enjoy Deep Ellum and eat at Freeman’s Cafe. I like to take people to local spots like the Turkey Dam, Kitchen + Kocktails, and the Island Spot to get some authentic Jamaican cuisine.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Chef Randy would not be Chef Randy without my mother, Big Ant my great-grandfather, and my wife. My mother had me at a young age and I inherited my ambition from her. Being a young mom I watched her moves. I watched her work, learn and just her overall hustle and bustle. During her years of constantly working I spent some great years with Big Ant as an adolescent kid and he basically forced me into being the chef. He was in a wheelchair and was 6 foot 8 and had a large stature so it was difficult for him to get into the small kitchen in our house so I was his legs. Being his legs meant I did the cooking under his direction and that developed into my passion for food. However my passion for food evolved even more when I met my wife. She is a true foodie and we have that in common so she’d have me cooking different dishes and experimenting with all types of flavors. Before I even thought of Meal Master my wife believed in my gift and would constantly tell me to utilize that to be my own boss. She has been the co-pilot to my life and my brand and I wouldn’t trade her and our journey together for the world.
