We had the good fortune of connecting with Randall Pulfer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Randall, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Chipp Golf Co. was actually the byproduct of the COVID-19 pandemic, where everyone was quarantined at home with very little to do while people across the world were suffering. Golf became one of the few havens for people to get outside, exercise, socialize, and feel a sense of normalcy. How could people playing golf actually be leveraged to help the community and world at large? That’s when Chipp Golf Company was born.
Golf gloves are boring. If you play golf as often as we do, you’ve probably needed to buy a new glove every now and again. If you’re also like us, adding fun and colorful apparel to your on-course look is a must. With the game of golf continuing to grow in popularity and the increasing demand for unique and fun apparel options, how have golf gloves remained so (quite literally) black and white? We couldn’t find the answer, so we created it.
Here at Chipp, we love creating fun and innovative designs that bring life to the game of golf. We also love making an impact in our community. So we got to thinking, how can we improve the game we love while benefiting the world around us – how can we “Chipp” in? It’s simple! For every glove purchased, 10% of the proceeds are donated directly to one of our partnered charitable organizations whose missions are the inspirations behind many of our designs. We want you to look good on the course but also do good off of it.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2017 with a degree in Industrial & Systems Engineering. I have held a variety of roles in various companies ranging from supply chain and distribution operations to data analytics. My current day job is as a Senior Business Data Analyst at DraftKings where I build machine learning models to help our business better understand our data and customers in order to drive data driven decision making.
Chipp Golf Co has allowed me to step out of my technical experience and do something both fun and creative. I love designing new golf gloves and seeing a product go from concept to a physical product being sold to customers. What I would like the readers of this to remember about Chipp is that we want to connect golfers to the game they love and the causes that they stand for. With philanthropy as a driving force behind our brand, we donate 10% of all proceeds to various charitable organizations whose mission and impact in the community are the inspirations behind many of our designs. We want our customers to feel that their purchase not only helps them perform better on the course but also do good off of it.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
A few items on our agenda would be to catch a ballgame at Globe Life Field, play golf at Texas Star (my absolute favorite golf course in the metroplex), and if it September/October we would have to grab a corndog and some deep fried oreos at the State Fair of Texas. A couple of my favorite restaurants would be Shugs, Velvet Taco, and of course Katy Trail Ice House for the best chicken quesadilla I have ever had!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my beautiful fiance. Having a full time job, getting an MBA on weekends, and trying to launch this company in my remaining free time can be a lot. Despite that, she has been supportive every step of the way and I certainly would not be able to do what I do without her. I am thankful every day to have her by my side through this journey.
