We had the good fortune of connecting with Rajat and Vibhor Kanungo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rajat and Vibhor, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Being part of cricket fraternity in DFW for last 10 years, we learnt how people struggle to get the right gear and in right pric. Mostly, players in the region buy the gear online or from India or Pakistan without even trying it and often remain unhappy.

We decided to fill this gap and to provide the best quality gear in the most affordable prices locally.

USA has recently experienced the passion and craze for cricket in form of Major League Cricket tournament and we can foresee that the cricket will be next big thing in next 10-15 years. There are more that 500 teams playing cricket in DFW area and some players are even representing the nation at the highest level.

It is our passion for the game which keeps us going, to play and to serve, by providing the right gear to our customers.

We wish, “THE SPORTZ BOX” to be every cricket lover’s one stop shop.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are not just a cricket store, we are focused on bringing the community together and promote the game of Cricket in the United States. From giving away the bats to the young talent to support the non-profit organizations like Leaf -Little Elm Angels Foundations, we have been out there.

In just one year we have grown exponentially with many 5 star google reviews. This talks about the quality of gear and service we provide to our customers.

We started the business with just 15 cricket bats in inventory and today we maintain a healthy inventory of more that 150 cricket bats and entire cricket gear. We recently opened our second store front in Allen, TX to serve larger customer base and it was a succefull event. We had a foot print of around 120-150 people.

Starting a business is never easy and everyone face the challenges, from selecting the vendors to establish the product import route. We have set direct partnerships with some big names in the world of cricket, like SG, GM, Kookaburra and RNS, to secure the best quality gear and we bring them to the customers in the most affordable price. We also travel to these cricket manufacturers across the world to hand pick items.

The most important lesson we have learnt is Operate with Empathy. Selling the product is one thing but we need to put ourselves in the customer’s shoe and see the brand how they see it. That is the only way to grow.

We want to tell every cricket lover out there that The Sportz Box is there to meet their every need and support them to perform at the highest level. Our vision is not to be just another Cricket store, we want to be the Amazon of cricket and possibly other sports gear as well.We are not just a cricket store we are focused on bringing the community together and promote the game of Cricket in the United States. From giving away the bats to the young talent to support the non-profit organizations like Leaf -Little Elm Angels Foundations, we have been out there.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We have many favorites spots in DFW area. Deep Ellum and lower Greenville for drinks. Uptown for brunch and dinner dates. The Grandscape in Colony has been a recent favorite sepcially Sixes where we can enjoy cricket over drinks and food. And obviously if there is a cricket game Grapevine Cricket Stadium will be on the list.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would like to give recognition to the Crown Cricket Academy who showed trust in us in our initial days.

We also like to give credit to the Cricket for Cause League, Dallas Cricket League and NTCA league to provide us the platform to grow.

Lastly and more importantly to our families who showed trust in us and support us in every up and down.
