We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Passion is the driving factor behind @recipeswithrach. I have a love of all things food, and I want to highlight awesome recipes with my followers, whether it be a new recipe I am trying or a recipe that has been passed down by my family. When COVID hit, I also wanted to support the local restaurants in my area and use my platform to help spread the word for these local businesses. Through it all, I have grown in my food photography skills and have a continued excitement towards shooting content I create, as well as highlighting some specialties from restaurants I visit.

Not going to lie…there is a lot of work behind each post, which includes content creation and editing photos, but my passion towards creating better and better food-based content and the connection I have with my followers drive me to where @recipeswithrach is today. I always feel like I have so much to learn, but I love every part of this journey!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think what sets @recipeswithrach apart from other food blogs is that I feature both local Houston and recipe-based content. My motto is also to spread positivity through food, so I really try to capture the best elements of the food I am posting! I also feature recipes directly on my Instagram account so that my followers have a place they easily go to see and save specific recipes they want to try,

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

If my best friend was visiting from out of town, I would definitely take her to all the best Houston food and hangout spots!

Some of my favorites are:

Egghaus since the food there is amazing! They have an assortment of croissant flavors with my favorites being the rose and lavender croissants. The breakfast sandwiches are also perfecttt!! They are made with soft scrambled eggs nested within a brioche bun. The best place to start the tour!

Common Bond – hands down the best bakery I have been to. Literally everything here is top notch but my favorites from here are their triple chocolate cookies, pistachio croissant, and their strawberry chocolate passion entremet.

Roka Akor – for a fancy meal, definitely check out the omakase experience at Roka Akor! The food is absolutely divine, and I loved how the dishes started light (like sashimi, nigiri, and scallops), and ended with strong flavors like the KING CRAB, wagyu steak, and decadent dessert which featured a chocolate caramel lava cake.

Besides food, there are also a lot of fun activities to do in Houston, such as ice skating at The Galleria Mall, doing a pedal party in The Heights, going for a run at Memorial Park in the newly renovated Eastern Glades, and a spa day in at Spa World would be the perfect relaxing end to the trip!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate the shoutout to my mom who has always been my biggest supporter. Growing up, she has always encouraged me to embrace my creative, artistic side which included photography, singing, dancing, and art. Being exposed to all of these creative outlets while I was younger definitely has helped me find my niche in the way I photograph and stage my food-based content. My mom also has influenced me to work my hardest by leading by example. She became a Houston-based realtor 5 years ago (Michelle Lee on HAR), and her drive and work ethic has brought her the expertise and personal brand she continues to excel at today. Watching her work so hard towards a goal of building her own realtor business inspires me to work even harder with mine.
