We had the good fortune of connecting with Profit & Monk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Profit & Monk, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Profit & Monk began one year ago last January. After meeting online and sharing an interest in collaboration, I drove 15 hours across the country to meet Dani for the first time. She was originally going to record some backup vocals for my solo project. After a few sessions of recording, something sparked between us that led us to write song after song for weeks straight. After 3 months, we had over 30 songs recorded. I had only planned on staying there for a week, and now a year has passed and I have yet to return home. We sold her property to move to California for 6 months to work on our business, and now have settled in Prescott AZ. We will be back in the Dallas area this year to play shows and see family.

There is a lot of risks involved in leaving home to meet someone new in another state. We didn’t know what to expect, but we both sensed good things would come of it. For her, selling her home after 10 years to pursue music was daunting. To take on California together, to rehearse and prepare for the stage, to release music, all while getting to know each other in a new relationship, took a lot of courage from both of us. The path we’ve chosen is not an easy one. We know how challenging it will be for us to navigate the industry, how focused we must be to go on tour. We know that our product is one of a kind, there isn’t any music out there that sounds like ours. We know the sky is the limit, and that this music will stand the test of time. It feels like the universe has pushed us out into the unknown, and we have to face this all head on from here on out. We’re very excited to have the opportunity to do what we both love. We’re fortunate to have the creative chemistry with each other that allows for us to create something so unique. Now the challenge is to bring it to life in a way that allows prosperity and longevity in our career. We know that if we didn’t take major risks, then none of this could have happened. To step out in faith in these times of uncertainty, with confidence in our ability, with a dedication to our vision. We know that we got it. We know that the end result will be worth any risks along the way.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a a music producer and vocal artist from DFW. I’ve been producing music for 10 years. My partner Dani is a singer/songwriter originally from Los Angeles. We both play sing, play keyboard, guitar, drums, and produce. We have an experimental sound involving hip hop, pop, rock, etc. We currently have 8 songs out, with new releases every few weeks. We are performing shows locally, and hope to have shows scheduled in DFW this summer. We have our own publishing company, and act as our own label for the time being.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Prescott is the perfect location in Arizona. Just a short drive to the Grand Canyon, Vegas, Phoenix, Flagstaff, and Sedona. The mountains, the weather, the vibes of the city, it’s all very peaceful.

Dallas is my second home. I’m a huge Mavs fan, can’t wait to catch a few games when I’m there. Maybe I’ll get to show Luka some of our tunes. We can’t wait to play some gigs downtown.

We dedicate this Shoutout to each other. We could not do this without one another. We’ve been alone on much of this journey over this last year, depending on each other for support and encouragement. The equality in our partnership is what makes Profit & Monk special. We both write, record, produce, mix, and master all of our own music. We also want to thank anyone who takes the time to listen to our music, it means so much to us.
