We had the good fortune of connecting with Priscilla Aguilar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Priscilla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since the very beginning I discovered that the 9 to 5 corporate job wasn’t for me. I wanted to own my own business, to create flexibility with my time and financial freedom for my family and I.I want to establish generational wealth for my children and future grandchildren and to also show my kids that you can be successful without working for someone else. I was given the opportunity to enter this industry 4 years ago with another permanent makeup company that helped me grow within the beauty industry and understand what it takes to be an entrepreneur. In 2021 I decided that it was time to venture out on my own and to start my own permanent makeup business. In addition I also want to provide a place where women feel comfortable in their own skin, where they can be themselves and allow their creativity to flourish for how they want their brows, lips and eyes to look like. I’m here to enhance their natural beauty and bring out the confidence they have within themselves.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
You know it is funny how life comes full circle. At the age of 15 I decided to shave my eyebrows off and I would draw them back on with a brow pencil. I never thought in a million years that I would choose to become a brow artist as being my career, let alone start my own brow business. I’m a permanent make-up artist who specializes in brows. When I see someone, whether it be in person, the internet or on TV, the first thing I look at is their brows and how I can already see the brow shape that will bring out all their facial features. I’ve always compared brows to heels. High heels make the outfit, as do your eyebrows to your face. They enhance what you already naturally have. I guess what I’m saying is slaying brows is my superpower. LOL! It was definitely not easy getting to where I am today, I still have my challenges, but being consistent and being goal oriented is what has helped me stay on track. I definitely can get discouraged from time to time, especially when you’re going through a slow season, but that’s where my husband comes in. He reminds me to stay positive and to pray about it. I’ve learned how to communicate better and to just listen, not only in my professional life, but as well in my personal life. I’ve learned that everyone is different and one size does not fit all. Everyday I learn something new about the permanent makeup industry and of myself as an individual. I am so proud of where my journey in the PMU industry has taken me and I couldn’t be any happier.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I’m being totally honest here, I don’t really go out much. I am more of a stay at home, watch Netflix and chill kinda girl. However, if I did have a best friend coming to visit me from out of town, we would definitely stop by Starbucks first or Ihop for breakfast, because caffeine and pancakes is a must, lol. The Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens is somewhere I would love to go, because I’ve never been, so it would be nice to just walk around with our starbies and admire all the beautiful flowers and enjoy nature’s scenery. Our next stop would be Vila Brazil in Irving. Their food is AMAZING and a great place to have lunch or dinner. Benihanna is definitely a restaurant we would go and eat at. Klyde Warren Park is another spot where we go to have a picnic with our kids and spouse. and having fun and just enjoying the Downtown Dallas scene. Again I don’t go out very much so I wouldn’t know much about the Dallas nightlife but I probably would be down to walk around Deep Ellum, listen to some music, have a few drinks (responsibly of course) and dance a little. Oh another place I love going to is the Bishop Arts District, walking around shopping, having brunch, there is literally a lot we can do there to enjoy the day. I mean Dallas is huge so there is definitely lots to do here.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost I want to start by dedicating this interview and my accomplishments to my Mama, may she RIP. I began my career in the permanent makeup industry when she was no longer with us, but I know she would’ve been my #1 supporter and I pray that she is looking down from heaven and I’m making her proud. I learned from her to always continue going no matter what life throws at you, to fight for what you want and to always keep my head up high. I thank her for all the love that she always gave me, even when I didn’t deserve it, for never giving up on me and always believing in me. My strength comes from my mother.

I want to give a huge shout out to my husband for being one of the biggest supporters I have. Since day 1 he has always been very supportive of my decisions on owning a business. He always encourages me to keep going when I’m feeling discouraged. He keeps my head above water and never lets me drown. I’m never on my own to figure things out. He is my right hand man and my CFO. My kids also deserve some recognition, especially my two oldest daughters, Lena & Issa! They hand out my business cards to their friends so they can give to their moms, sisters, aunts, etc. They also hand my cards out to their teachers and share my work on their Instagram stories. They help with making my aftercare bags for my clients. They are literally the real MVPs in my business. All they ask for in return is a grande caramel frappuccino from Starbucks, lol. To all my family and friends who also have booked with me and or shared my business on their social media, thank you!

I want to also thank my mentors Leslie and Juanita for giving me the opportunity to take their brow training and taking me under their wing for the first 2 years of my career. I was just their part time receptionist who took an interest in learning how to do brows and they took the chance on me and for that I am forever grateful.

I can’t forget about all my beautiful and loyal clients!! Without them Unruly Beauty Studio wouldn’t exist. Thank you for your support, for your trust in me, for referring me with your family and friends. Thank you for the tags and shout outs on social media. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Lastly and most certainly important, my biggest shout out has to go to God! Without him I wouldn’t be where I am today. I owe all my success to him, even my failures, because without them I wouldn’t have been able to learn and grow.
