Meet Preston Kelly | Architect and Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Preston Kelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Preston, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit ever since I was a child, selling knick-knacks I’d made during grade school. I’m always looking for opportunities to make my own way and become independent. My truck was one of those great opportunities that hit me. Instead of it sitting in a garage, collecting dust, I thought, ‘Why not use it to create memories?’

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The business I founded is centered around my classic truck, obviously. But it’s much more than just a “truck” to me – it’s a work of art and a piece of history. Just as much as those things, it’s also a piece of my life; it has been since I was 16 years old. I’m so proud to be able to own and use this special piece of history. I’m fascinated by it’s small details, by the story behind it, and the history it carries. It is a unique opportunity to get to share a slice of this experience with others. In my day job, I work in hospitality architecture. Knowing the ins and outs of the hotel-and-resort world has allowed me a glimpse of what makes an experience both unique and tailored. I’m so grateful to be able to bring this knowledge with me and use it to tailor my service to each individual client I come in contact with. Enhancing their special occasion just a bit more with what I bring to the table is an incredibly fulfilling opportunity.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Dallas is an incredible place; somewhere I always wanted to live. In my bio, it says “Dallas is the new New York, and we do life better than L.A.” I absolutely believe it. Dallas is a vibrant city with a foundation of values that keeps me grounded and inspired. We have so many unbelievable spots to eat and drink, some of the best food in the south, a wonderfully historic downtown, and views in all directions. The Adolphus Hotel is one that has always been close to me. Its architecture is breathtaking and it’s an unmistakable Dallas icon. It’s so significant I decided to propose to my now-wife there.
One of the coolest places to grab a drink is just a couple of blocks away – the Midnight Rambler. It’s an underground, speakeasy vibe that’s so sultry you’d think you stepped back in time. It’s part of the inspiration for my social media tone as well.
A place I frequent a lot is called simply, Coffee Company. It’s in the Lakewood/Lower Greenville area and it’s been roasting and grinding coffee in the same little building for forty years. Any time I want to buy a special roast for home (and also grab a couple handmade chocolate truffles), that’s the spot. You’ve probably driven by and missed it, but it’s one of the most uniquely-Dallas, mom-and-pop coffee shops in town.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I recently got married to a beautiful woman, my wife, Jessica. She’s always been a great cheerleader of mine, encouraging me to pursue my passions and explore opportunities. She’s part of the reason I’m doing this, too; to provide for her and our family to have the ability to live fulfilled lives.
