Meet Porsha Burns | TEXAS REALTOR®, ABR, TACS, SFR, CE2X

We had the good fortune of connecting with Porsha Burns and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Porsha, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m originally from Memphis, Tennessee, where I first learned the meaning of strength and tenacity. Some of my fondest memories are waking up before sunrise on Sundays to sell newspapers with my grandmother, shelling peas, cleaning chitlins, and many days tending to the horses with my grandfather and my cousins. He called us “Soldiers.” Those early mornings taught me the value of hard work, sticking together,, and commitment doing things the right way. Though I spent my breaks in Tennessee, I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas, raised as an only child by a single mother. It was there I learned independence, resilience, and embraced a new way of life.
As an adult, I settled in the suburbs of Dallas, where the big city taught me how to navigate challenges, seize opportunities, and dream bigger than I ever imagined. Each place I’ve called home has shaped me—Memphis gave me grit, Fort Worth gave me roots, and Dallas gave me wings.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am most proud of the courage it took to walk away from my position as a Property Manager to pursue my dream of becoming a licensed Realtor. Helping people achieve their real estate goals has grown from a professional role into a true passion for me. There’s nothing more fulfilling than handing over keys or closing a deal knowing I’ve helped someone take a major step toward their dreams.
Today, I’m proud to have over $11 million in sales volume under my belt—but it was far from easy. My first year in the industry was all about training, learning, and laying the groundwork. The second year, I closed 15 deals, and I’ve maintained consistent growth since.
My journey, however, was far from easy. While dressed to the nine’s everyday during my training classes at Formation in Frisco with one of the top brokerages in the city, I faced eviction, repossession, and even came home a few times to my utilities being shut off. There was a moment when I had to scrape together every coin in my house just to put gas in my car so I could keep showing homes to my clients.
I had no choice but to keep going—my daughter was watching me, my family was rooting for me, and I had no plan B. This was the career I’d dreamed of since my early twenties, and I refused to let go of that vision. I’m also the first in my family to practice real estate, so breaking that ground made the fight even more meaningful.
I’ve learned that resilience will take you farther than talent alone. Consistency, humility, and genuine care for the people you serve are non-negotiable. Every challenge has prepared me to better serve my clients and protect their interests in the most important transactions of their lives.
I want people to know that my business is built on trust, dedication, and results. I don’t just sell homes—I guide, educate, and advocate for my clients every step of the way. My journey wasn’t smooth, but it’s the very grit and determination it took to get here that drives the level of service I give today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have serious wanderlust, so I’m always exploring the city. We’d kick things off with a day on the lake—renting a boat or jet skis to soak up the sun and cool off in the water.
We’d catch a game at AT&T Stadium (because football in Texas is a whole experience) or head to COSM for an immersive adventure.
To unwind, we’d spend a luxurious day at one of Dallas’s top spas, followed by some retail therapy at NorthPark Center. Later, we’d stroll through Klyde Warren Park, sampling bites from the food trucks while enjoying good conversation.
Evenings would be for rooftop vibes—like drinks at The National Downtown—or indulging in some of Dallas’ best Black-owned restaurants.
We could mix in a little romance and scenery with a gondola ride around Lake Carolyn in Las Colinas or hop on electric scooters to glide over the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge for panoramic downtown views.
For something creative, we’d do a sip-and-paint session at the top of Reunion Tower—painting while the skyline lights up around us. And if the timing is right, we’d hit up one of Dallas’s many food or cultural festivals to close the week with a bang.
Dallas is one of those cities where you can go from high-energy adventures to laid-back luxury in the same day—and that’s exactly the experience I’d give my best friend.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes. I ‘d like to give a shout-out to my mother, Stephanie Davis, who recently retired after an incredible 35-year career with FedEx. For more than three decades, she worked relentlessly—not just at her job, but in life—to make sure I had every opportunity to succeed. She provided me with a good life, ensuring I never went without, and she did it all with strength, grace, and consistency. My mother taught me the importance of showing up for the people you love, and that nothing is out of reach if you’re willing to work for it.
