We had the good fortune of connecting with Pierce Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pierce, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Hip hop music, with its vibrant rhythms, poetic lyrics, and powerful storytelling, has an incredible ability to nurture the soul. It serves as a vessel for artists to express their deepest emotions, struggles, and triumphs, resonating with listeners on a profound level. The artistry of hip hop is a blessing, allowing talented individuals to share their unique perspectives and narratives with the world. Through its beats and verses, it bridges cultural gaps, fosters empathy, and inspires change. It provides solace to those facing adversity and offers a voice to the marginalized. Hip hop is more than just music; it’s a testament to the human spirit’s resilience and creativity, a gift that enriches our lives and connects us in a way that few other art forms can.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The thing that will always set me apart is my passion for what I make and the attention to detail. Drawing from the improvisational nature of jazz and the soulful, introspective essence of Neo soul, I’ve learned that authenticity and staying true to one’s creative vision are essential. Much like a jazz musician crafting a unique improvisational solo or a Neo soul artist pouring their emotions into every note, hip hop artists must embrace their individuality and channel their experiences into their music. It’s about weaving personal narratives, intricate wordplay, and innovative beats into a cohesive tapestry that reflects one’s inner world. This commitment to artistic integrity not only distinguishes hip hop as a genre but also allows artists to resonate deeply with audiences, fostering a connection that transcends musical boundaries and speaks directly to the soul. This feeling, this importance never goes away for me. As a listener, a creator, a fan. It keeps me creative and humble. There’s always more and that mindset makes the creation of my work easy. My biggest obstacle will always be chasing a version of myself that I haven’t met yet.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Love this question. Well, assuming it’s a week long trip, I’d make sure we head out to Addison for bit throughout the week. Catch a bite at Hudson House or Little Greek. Then maybe do catch a game at Sidecar Social. Friday we’d have to hit Bishop Arts for some live music at La Reunion, maybe a couple drinks and a band at Revelers, then head to Trinity Groves to check out the market.

Saturday we start at the Farmers Market and taste everything. Pick up a half bottle mimosa from one of the stands and head to Deep Ellum to catch a show at The Factory or maybe Ruins. We’d end the night at The Statler rooftop bar downtown and be back in Deep Ellum Sunday for brunch at Stirr.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to recognize some of the creatives that have helped me push forward. Always supporting whether they are a part of what I’m doing at the time or not. Brent Pitt (of Brenny Creative), Kam Wilkerson (with Kam Kooks) and Michael Ferguson (with Dumbdrumrecords), just to name a few. I appreciate every one of you and admire the work all of you do. It inspires me more than y’all know.
