We had the good fortune of connecting with Phillip Harber and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Phillip, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
I think the biggest thing that people are unaware of in the powerlifting community at least from an outsiders perspective.
Is how positive we are and dedicated to each other’s success. Sure there’s rivalry but if you’re gone from that gym for more than a day or so people will reach out to find out if you’re in the right headspace or something came up I recently got injured and the Gym owner himself reached out to me wanting to know why he hadn’t seen me.
In my short time working out at Metroflex I’ve met dietitians personal trainers elite athletes and have never felt like I was in the presence of stars or celebrities but people who just wanted to get better one day at a time.
I have something that I say that every single person who walks in our gym “ congratulations the hard part was walking through the door now you get the fun part of lifting heavy stuff”
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My job is positivity to create a pass for those that car behind me I won’t be able to look up to me and say if this guy can get them self and shave why can’t I.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Anytime I have to go have fun it’s Fort Worth we’re going to start out on seventh Street at Thompson’s bookstore down in the hidden speakeasy then make our way down to the stockyards to Billy Bob’s.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Oh my entire success is dedicated to every single person at MetroFlex the Castle. If it wasn’t for Garrett Denham I wouldn’t even be near where I am now. He’s an absolute mountain of a man with the skills and talent to truly be a leader but yet he takes time for us at the bottom to help us one day reach where he’s at. Rendy and Christine for making a home for us degenerates and savages and providing us some of the best equipment I’ve ever seen.
