We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Anglero’ and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pamela, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
My end goal is very vague at the moment, and I think that’s ok. As I continue growing in this industry and learning, my plans evolve and change. I am enrolling in College to study Entertainment and Sports Management. One thing I have found I love is the casting process, being a mentor and leader, and developing something from the ground up. Hopefully, after some schooling, the path will become clearer as opportunities present themselves! But in the meantime, I am just enjoying the journey and learning from those around me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The path to where I am has taken a lot of work to get to however, growing up in Orlando, Fl. made it slightly easier to achieve my goals in a quicker time frame while gaining loads of experience! When I was 18 I started working at the most magical place in the world, Disney World. I discovered there that I was strong at what I did and that hard work and perseverance paired with kindness and professionalism can get you far, fast.
I eventually found my way to the other parks working at Universal Studios, Seaworld, and Legoland.
In the parks, I learned different parts of my craft and performed as an animated character performer in the parks, as well as a face actress portraying characters, and a singer/performer. All the while, I built up my resume at my hometown community theatres often stage managing, acting in, or teching shows.
The lifestyle in Orlando, FL. is so different from any other. The people I was surrounded by were some of the most exceptional actors, directors, and producers. Everyone worked hard at their crafts and amplified their creativity wherever and however they could by writing shows, producing, becoming entrepreneurs in the business, and exploring different paths to success. It’s single-handedly the most impactful and influential place and I was very fortunate to grow up there!
Translate that to Dallas, TX. Another amazing beast, however, very different in offerings and goals. My husband and I traveled here during Covid since the Theme Park circuit had shut down, we needed a fresh start and most importantly, work! When I got here I was so lost, being a theme park actress, I found it hard to hit the ground running, especially as things were just starting to reopen from the Pandemic. My first job was Stage Managing for Grand Prairie Arts Council, they had put out a notice that they needed someone pronto and I applied. Before I walked in I remember balling to my husband being scared of fitting in or doubting my abilities but with his help, I pulled it together and as soon as I walked in, I felt like a well-oiled machine ready to work. That cast and show truly reminded me of why I do this and how much I love it! A lot of the strengths that set me aside in Orlando are not used as much here, however, it’s been a blessing in disguise as I have been blessed beyond words to get to work in positions I had never dreamed of. I am now a Director, Stage Manager, AND Actress in DFW and have a vision for my future though it is ever-changing. I have a mission when it comes to directing, goals in my performing endeavors, and strengthen my resume with each opportunity I get. My biggest lesson through this all is to just go for it. Say YES to opportunities, even if they seem left field. If it feels right, you’ll make it work and it will add to your journey and strengths.
I asked a great mentor at Disney Cruise Line “How did you get to where you are?”, “How can I stand out from the rest?” and his answer was simple, ” There are a lot of people going out for the roles you want. So what’s important is your skill set and what will set you apart. Sometimes you have to take opportunities that aren’t within your ‘ideal job scope’ but take that opportunity to build on new skills that may help you in the long run” He recounted to me how he had taken a costuming job with a touring company, however, the experience from the tour and what he learned from the job had set him apart when interviewing for the position he currently holds. As everyone else stayed in the same job, he went away and learned a new skill setting him apart from the rest.
That has been the best lesson I have learned and what has truly set me apart from the rest.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this question because Dallas is truly the BEST place to live. We invite my family and our friends all the time to come to explore the city and just hosted my family for a week during New Year’s, so I know precisely how to answer this!
On a long week’s trip, the first thing I check out is any free offerings the city has, which surprisingly, is a lot!
I’d start the trip out with my personal favorite, the Dallas Art Museum, free admission to be surrounded by art… Yes, thank you! After that, a stroll around Kylde Warren Park, grab a bite to eat at the food trucks, and take the chance to walk through Dallas to take in the beauty or walk to The Dallas Theatre Center or even the AT&T Center and catch a show! Speaking of shows, we are blessed with so many amazing theatre venues. Take a trip to The Firehouse Theatre, Lyric Stage, Casa Manana, Jubilee Theatre, Grand Prairie Arts Council, Family Music Theatre, Theatre Arlington, Uptown Players, Moody Performance Hall, Second Thought, Shakespeare in the Park, Theatre Three, Amphibian, Circle Theatre, Stage West Theatre… I could truly go on because each is worth the mention.
Other days would be filled with the Forth Worth Zoo, Stock Yards, Dallas Zoo, and The Dallas Aquarium. Lunches in the Bishop Arts District, coffee in Downtown Dallas, or dinner at small French restaurants like Cadot.
There is so much to offer here, someone can visit for a month and I’d still have places I’d want to take them when the time is up!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Recently our community has lost an incredible Actor and friend. This Shoutout is dedicated to him, Jason Hallman. In life, especially in this industry, it is so easy to feel alone. Imposter syndrome sets into all of us and the only way to get through is not only to believe in yourself and your capabilities but also to surround yourself with people who believe in you. The reason Jason Hallman is a shining example of a person you should surround yourself with is because he was a light! He would walk into a room and make everyone feel loved, appreciated, and valued. He sent out casting notices to friends, had encouraging talks, and let his spirit speak for itself. Jason’s presence will be missed in this community and I believe the best way to honor him is to emulate his love and passion for this work and be a rock and mentor to those around us.
My next shoutout is for my husband, Esteban Vilchez. Esteban is not only a source of goodness and encouragement for me but for everyone he meets. Countless times people tell me how much they love and appreciate his heart. He is kind, listens, and truly values people for who they are. I would not be where I am without him by my side! Esteban makes me brave, he reminds me of my abilities and strengths when I am down and loves unconditionally. He deserves as much recognition as he can get!
