We had the good fortune of connecting with Painting Pours and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Painting Pours, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
As we began our whiskey journey, we were unaware of the complexities of the space. For example, MGP (Midwest Grain Products) can distill 100 barrels of whiskey, all with the same ratio of ingredients, and distribute those barrels to 25 different companies. Each of the companies will put out a unique product. We often get asked, “what makes this whiskey different than another?” And the answer to that question can be large quantities of variables. As described in the previous example, even with the same recipe and distillery, products can be wildly different depending on the location and length of their maturation. Add in finishing (aging an already mature whiskey for a short period) and you really have quite a wide spectrum of flavors and profiles to choose from.

One thing that we have found in our early stage of being in the whiskey social media community is that there are a lot of varying methods to go about it. Some people take a bragadocious, stuck up, “what I have you can’t have” mentality which is not enjoyable for anyone. Others may take a route that is in it for money and will say anything about a product so that they can get more product from that business. Others, like us, and many people we have met, are in it FOR the community. For example, we did a single barrel experience at the Whiskey Blendery in Little Elm, Tx, and after we were sitting in the tasting room, a guy came up to us with a few bottles that none of us had tried that were rather hyped in the whiskey realm and said “You all should try these! Whiskey is meant to be shared.” Its experiences like these that got us into this realm and its experiences like this that make us want to get others into it as well. That why we believe a smile, generosity, and an invitation can always make someone’s day.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We feel that it is still too early to answer these questions. We are still figuring out where we want to go. As we are still in our current Public Accounting roles, we haven’t been able to dive into this new path with both feet.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As TCU graduates, one day would have to be dedicated to Fort Worth. Hopefully catching a TCU football game, followed by a night in Stockyards.

In Dallas, we love walking on Katy Trail and around White Rock Lake. We also enjoy playing pickleball at Cole Park, followed by a cold beer.

For those interested in whiskey, we love the Whiskey Blendery for a true experience. For those looking to try new whiskey, we recommend Rye on Greenville Ave.

Our favorite restaurants are Goldee’s, Coco Shrimp, Las Palmas, Fortune House, Hatsuyuki Handroll Bar, and Town Hearth.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The answer to this question is primarily each other. We all graduated college and started having some spending money, and influenced each other to follow this passion. It has grown rapidly since that day, only 2 years ago.

Additionally, one of us grew up with family from Kentucky. Specifically some from Maysville, KY, which is considered by some to be the birthplace of bourbon. Growing up around bourbon drinkers, it is hard not to be enticed.
