Meet Oswaldo Velazquez | Restaurant Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Oswaldo Velazquez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Oswaldo, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always been an entrepreneur at heart, mostly something I got from my father who has been a business owner his whole life. My older brother and I always admired that about him, and so growing up we started a numerous amount of small business, from selling candy at 7 years old to having our own landscaping company at 14.
I started working in the hospitality industry in my early twenties as a busser. I immediately knew, this is were I belonged. I worked hard for 15 years to learn as much of the business as I could. I knew at some point I’d throw my hat in the ring and I wanted to guarantee my success. When my wife and I finally put our heads together and decided to finally open up our first restaurant we felt excited and ready to start our own journey. We’ve been operating for 10 months and it has been a challenge from day one, but we have an amazing community who support us in Frisco TX and we know there is nothing we can’t overcome.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Currently a student of architecture, I want to be remembered long after I’m gone for my concepts. I plan to focus on the hospitality industry for now but creativity has no limits.
Being a family man, going to school and running my own business is hard, I’d be lying if I said it isnt. But my faith carries me through the tough stages, and having a clear vision of who I’m doing this for helps me place one foot in front of the other.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend is my business partner, we like contemporary concepts. The Mexican would more than likely be where we would go grab a bite. Afterwards we would more than likely bar hop at Deep Ellum and brainstorm our next concept.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I give all glory to God. Next my wife and my kids, everything I do is for them. Last but not least, my parents for sacrificing so much for me.
