We had the good fortune of connecting with Noah “Shark” Robertson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Noah “Shark”, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I have a lot of motivations for delving into the entrepreneurial side of the entertainment business. First of all, I’ve had many experiences with businesses and owners that I thought were doing it wrong. Whether it was their interactions with their customers or their staff or their failure to capitalize on opportunities, it occurred to me that I could do it and do it right. Also, as a creative-minded individual, it’s fun for me to learn and employ different processes and build things from the ground up. I enjoy the journey. It also creates an opportunity for me to help others, which is one of my main motivations behind a lot of what I do. I enjoy building up the people around me and helping us all to grow together. That’s community.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m really proud of all the amazing artists, musicians, and comedians I’ve been able to help out and work with over the years. It’s incredibly rewarding. It all started in 2004, while I was studying music at Tarleton State University. While there I produced and hosted a radio show on KTRL-The Planet called Swimming With Sharks. In 2004, I began marketing, booking and promoting bands under the moniker, Swimming With Sharks Entertainment. In 2010, I founded Swimming With Sharks Records and began signing bands from all over the world. In 2016, I founded Zombie Shark Records. I began my comedy journey in 2018 and started booking comedians and producing comedy events. We’ve come a long way and have put together a ton of events and shows over the years! It’s been awesome to see it grow and continue to progress.

I think what sets us apart from others is unique events and marketing tactics. We are heavy on branding and we do a lot to offer interesting events that people will want to come to. People have come to expect something different from a Swimming with Sharks show or event. We also are very independent and we love working with independent artists. We do this for the love of it and to help the scene and help others get where they want to be. I’ll be doing this until I can’t anymore.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite place in the Dallas area is definitely Deep Ellum, but it’s not for everyone. It has a rich history of art and music and there is always something fun going on. It has a bad reputation for being a bad area sometimes, but I’ve never really had any issues. There are music venues, comedy clubs, a wide variety of food and other entertainment, tattoo shops; the list goes on and on. There’s art and graffiti everywhere and it just feels like home to me. I like the feeling of excitement I get when I’m there and that anything could happen.

If you’re looking for something a little more peaceful, go check out Turtle Creek. It’s a beautiful and serene place to relax or go for a walk or go fishing. Turtle Creek is a great spot.

There’s a TON to do in Dallas! I love going to Dallas Comedy Club or the Dallas World Aquarium, maybe even Medieval Times! Party!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely want to give credit to my mother for always supporting me in everything I do. I’m not close with a lot of my extended family and I was never afforded the opportunity to meet my biological father. So her support has been monumental, especially in the early days. She always said you can do anything you put your mind to, and that’s been one of my life’s mantras for sure.

A lot of credit goes out to teachers as well. I’ve had a lot of teachers and mentors over the years, in music and comedy, and these people really help influence my path and life choices. Education is something I’ve always appreciated and it’s one of the reasons why I’ve always enjoyed teaching and imparting knowledge to others.

Friends, fans, peers, audience members… you all ROCK! Thanks for the support!
