We had the good fortune of connecting with Niyah Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Niyah, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Am I good enough? Yes I am”- Michelle Obama

This is such a simple affirmation, but it means wonders. As someone who has always struggled with feeling good enough or having imposter syndrome, I always repeat this to myself. Whether I am just starting my day or having a moment of weakness.

I love that it is an easy mantra that I can say no matter where I am or what I am doing. If I am feeling uneasy during a photo session, a quick moment to myself and I can keep going.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the world of photographers, there’s so many of us. There will always be more experienced photographers. However, what sets me apart is maybe not necessarily my work but how I treat people. That’s not to say most photographers are mean, because they aren’t. I just make it a point to go out of my introverted comfort zone to get to know my clients. I never want to be the photog that just gets the job done. I want to get to know my clients on more than just a surface level. Hearing the stories of my clients and how they have become who they are is always the best. I don’t like to walk away from a session and my client still feels like I am a stranger. I love to build relationships with them, and quite honestly, it’s those same clients that keep me going. A lot of my repeat clients turn into friends, and I truly love that.

Being a photographer in a metroplex like Dallas is not easy at all. With there being so many who sometimes are better or cheaper, it is easy to feel like it is a waste of time marketing myself and my brand but realizing that people choose you specifically for your work is comforting. I am still constantly learning about photography, and I never want to stop. I will always strive to be better, which is also one of the biggest lessons. I had to seriously take a step back and humble myself and realize that I had a lot of work to do. I needed to take classes to improve my shooting, my editing, and even work on the business aspects of CRM’s and how to deliver the photos to my clients in an efficient and seamless way.

I would love the world to know that as for my brand of Niyography, I want nothing more than for each client to feel beautiful as they are and comfortable in their skin after their session. I want nothing but the best for each client. If anyone chooses me to photograph a special time in their life, know that we will have fun and I will boost your ego!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d say we start off free and fun with DMA a casual stroll through Klyde warren and try one of the food trucks (hoping my favorites are there ‘The Butchers Son’ and ‘Andy’s Frozen Custard’.. Going to the Farmer’s Market and walking through Deep Ellum are always a must, as buying local is the best. While in Deep Ellum, making time to stop at Punch Bowl Social is always good fun.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without a doubt my Husband and my mom. They are my #1 Cheerleaders for sure! There have been many instances where I think about giving up photography just because of a small issue or not having the number of clients I think I should have or when I compare myself to other photogs. My husband has always pushed me to be the best I can be, despite my feelings in the moment. As well as my mom, she has always been encouraging, even when I was a kid doing simple arts & crafts.

They are my “dream team” and always ask how they can support me. It means so much to have them in my corner and I am forever grateful.
