We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikki Washington and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikki, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
My balanced has changed drastically over the years. Through the natural ebbs and flows of life, coupled with discerning times and season, I’ve learned when to lean into firing on all cylinders, and when to take prayerful pauses. As a kid, I use to accept every invite, say yes to every engagement and lend my support to every cause that was aligned with my faith. Although I was prayerful about things, I just wasn’t as quick to pause during the prayer. Many years later there is nothing I say yes to, without clarity. Even if it’s a good idea, I wait for confirmation to make sure it’s in step with God’s voice and will for my life. Also, I think it’s important to note that balance, in the traditional sense can be an illusion. Yes, we can do it all, but like we’ve all heard and discovered, we may not be able to do it all at once. That’s why numbering our days and applying our hearts towards wisdom is so important.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am presently bi-vocational, as I serve as a leader for a private company and serve in ministry by way of my local assembly when not on the road traveling for work, or speaking engagements

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Because of the itinerant of my schedule, I’m blessed to experience many cities, and one that I recently spent time in was Chicago. Although I had visited for many years, I got a chance to experience it at length, and found it to be pretty cool. I would probably take my bestie to Provare, an Italian/creole fusion restaurant, and then a tour boat ride on the pier or something along those lines. Chicago has so much to offer in the summer time, you really can’t walk a block without finding something interesting to do.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Hands down I can trace any shred of success I’ve garnered to three things: I serve. I submit and and I sow.
I serve my local assembly, my family, my friends and my loved ones. I sow into the the organization, and people as led by God, and I submit my life and the decision I make to my spiritual leadership. As a woman of God and ministry gift, it’s crucial that I have a covering. It has become increasingly important in the season where I’m traveling on the road for marketplace ministry. For me, that person is my spiritual father, Pastor Elvie Jackson of Santa Maria COGIC, in Santa Barbara County. No matter how far I travel, since the days of my adolescence, he and his wife Jackie, have been an honest anchor for me, and have helped to guide me through every major life transition. Rarely do you find leaders as loving and integral as them. I’m truly blessed.
