We had the good fortune of connecting with Niharika Rajput and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Niharika, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
It all happened gradually and organically . I just amalgamated my love for art and wildlife which resulted PaperChirrups , my brand . It was a long process and took a while to materialise.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Wildlife Artist specialising in building carefully handcrafted intricate paper sculptures of birds and animals . Along with my art practice I conduct art for wildlife conservation initiatives all over the world. I am most excited about being in the field and working with Ornithologist’s , researchers , wildlife enthusiasts and getting to learn more about the avian culture . Of course building the sculptures is equally exciting, I always look forward to the challenges that come with replicating wildlife to the very last detail . My hobby became my profession very organically and after much experimentation. I always admired nature and it’s sophisticated mechanisms and have always been in awe of what’s out there , it was only a question of amalgamating my love for art with Wildlife. Even after choosing Wildlife as my subject it was a long struggle of how to showcase that in my work and the process itself that followed . Choosing the medium also was part of it and came to me simply because it best replicated the plumage of the birds and in some cases the scales of certain animals . It most certainly took time and had its ups and downs but I am extremely lucky to have a wonderful support system , my entire family . They have been there for me always . It’s a journey you have to learn to appreciate for both it’s ups and downs , it’s a learning process . It was difficult in the beginning because as a single woman running the entire model there can be many challenges, such as social media marketing, branding , photography, building the work itself, packaging etc . But you get the hang of it with time . The only story I have to tell is everybody’s story or at least should be everybody’s story . Keeping this planet and it’s wildlife healthy is our responsibility and if we fail to do that then we fail our future generations who will inhabit this planet . My work acts as a reminder of what’s out there and needs to be protected, through my work I want more people to come forward and do the little they can do to help save our wildlife.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Aravali Biodiversity park for a morning bird watching session , for food maybe to Cyber city or Aerocity or Chandani Chowk for some local delhi food .
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My Brother specifically and then my family
