We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole Chamberlain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
C is for CONSISTENCY. That word makes me cringe with discomfort but if I’m riding on the consistency train then I’m not getting run over by it!
For me consistency means showing up even when I don’t feel like it both professionally and personally. I’m not talking about people pleasing here- I’m talking about taking action, committing and trusting the process regardless of how I’m feeling about it. This is very important if you’re a creative person. I’ve found that the more I create (even if it’s crap – it doesn’t matter) the less blocked I feel and the more productive I become in my business.
The best habit that I’ve developed is the practice of being still through prayer, meditation and writing. Being consistent with this spiritual practice allows me to clear my mind so that I can show up and be present for life.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
My art is jewelry design. I create mostly one-of-a-kind pieces or small curated collections for online and local boutiques.
I think that what sets my jewelry brand apart is the mindfulness that goes into discovering the origin of materials specifically the efficacy of gemstones. I love the sustainability aspect of my brand Urbane Cole and the repurposing process that goes into up cycling vintage jewelry.
One lesson I’ve learned is that not everyone is passionate about purchasing sustainable jewelry. You can educate your clients about the importance of sustainability and selling products that are ethically sourced but there will still be times where people just don’t care. And you know? That’s okay. My values are my values they don’t have to be yours. I’m just grateful for the amazing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Anytime friends or family come to visit I always bring them kolache’s from the CZECH bakery in Fate, Texas. They are usually sold out by like 9:30 AM so you have to get there early because they are the best!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very blessed to have such a supportive community of people in my life. They are the loves of my life.
I have had a spiritual mentor for over 10 years who’s supported me in ways that I cannot put into words. This woman shows up for me, holds me accountable and has taught me how to live by spiritual principles.
When I moved to Texas 10 years ago I was feeling pretty homesick especially around Christmas time. I’m from up north and the 70° December weather was just unacceptable. Well this special person who has since become my best friend and is more like family took to cheering me up by driving around Dallas to look at Christmas lights. I can’t tell you what that small act of kindness did for my heart or the many big acts he did there after but that day I felt the spirit of Christmas and the blossoming of the most beautiful friendship.
My husband Jon is my biggest cheerleader. It’s funny because he doesn’t even like jewelry but every time I complete a collection I’ll show him the pieces, he’ll smile and give me honest feedback. He is the kindest most gentle man and I am very blessed to be his wife.
