We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicol Law and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicol, how does your business help the community?
I’m a health Insurance Broker, how do I impact the community? It’s about educating and spreading awareness. It’s about being available to help people understand their health insurance, which for most people ,is complicated and foreign.
High quality health care helps prevent diseases and improves quality of life. Many think they can’t afford coverage and I have found that by asking the right questions and based on my knowledge of the carrier plan options, I have been able to help many find something that suits their needs and budget.
I’m very thankful for that, you would not believe how many stories I have heard about my clients getting sick or diagnosed with a critical illness and them being glad they finally got coverage through me and knowing that they could afford it. It breaks my heart hearing stories like that but it also makes me glad knowing I helped protect them.
Working with IHC Specialty Benefits provides me with a huge portfolio of carriers to work with to find the right options for individuals, families and Employers. It gives flexibility to customize options and present them to those I work with so they get a better understanding of what coverage options are.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Many think that you have to pay to work with a Health Insurance Broker, not true, my services are no charge to clients.
Have you ever gone into a store and seen the tag ONE SIZE FITS ALL? I will say, it’s not true and the same is for health insurance. Everyone is very different. Maybe the Affordable Care Act is better for this client but a Short term PPO plan is better for that client.
Some have families, some not, have different health needs and some are healthy and fit, some want specific doctors to go to and some are flexible, etc
You need to listen to your clients’ needs and take notes. We have that conversation and I ask specific questions to help me understand those needs, I begin my research and find at least three options to cater to what they want. It’s important to discuss pros and cons of coverage.
What I do is a “one stop shop” for health and life insurance. I’m able to offer products from Short term PPO, Medicare (Supplemental, Drug plan, Medicare Advantage plans), Affordable Care Act coverage, Indemnity, Dental, Vision, Hospitalization, Accident, Cancer, Heart attack/Stroke coverage, Life, Employer Group and more.
It is exciting to offer so many products and options. I love the fact that I can continue to work with my clients using various products to protect their health and assets.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I really love our area because there are so many places to visit. I always find my way back to Main St. in Grapevine. Where there are the cutest little shops and wineries along the street. I love Esperanza Mexican restaurants.
My favorite restaurant is Hugo in Irving.
Love to bring people to Lava Cantina The Colony for concerts and food.
Downtown Ft Worth is beautiful to take walks and photos along the Trinity River which is a place go to to clear my head.
Mutts is also a great dog park to enjoy quick food, adult beverages and watch your fur baby play.
Check out the Hidden Falls of Ft Worth.
I love hanging out at The Networking Bar with friends to work. The atmosphere is great for business people to meet clients and meet for after hour drinks.
The Dallas art district is a must see.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to thank IHC Specialty benefits leaders and mentors (Gary, Holly, Lindsey, Scott, Matt, Angie) that have trained and guided me to building up my career to where it is and cheering me on as I continue to grow, learn, and use that knowledge to teach others.
I want to thank my marketing business partner and best friend Allison, we have been able to gain reach with “The Insurance Girls” and have fun marketing silly videos to educate about health insurance. For most people it’s a boring thing to talk about so we add a little comedy to our videos. I also want to thank Kristin, along with Allison for being true friends and lifting me up and cheering me on and challenging me to help me succeed.
I want to thank my family for always being supportive along the way. There are many others that have been in and out of my life that have molded me to be who I am today.
