We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Midnight and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
I believe that the universe will always test you to see how badly you want something. To me, giving up only happens when you never really wanted what you were pursuing in the first place. As an artist, you see a lot of your peers who make music for the wrong reasons, whether its clout, praise, or money. What inspires me to keep going isn’t because I want to make music, but because I have to. I love music, and I want to keep making music until I’m old and wrinkly. When you put your heart and soul into something, giving up is never an option. Love and passion will always keep you going.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think what sets me apart from others is that I’m not afraid to take risks sonically, and I’m always looking to try new things musically. I try to make honest music, whether it’s goofy or introspective. I’m very excited to release my upcoming mixtape BLONDIE. It’s my best work to date and feels the most authentically me.

I started putting out music in 2017, and it’s been a slow and steady incline since. I’ve definitely faced challenges along the way, but I’ve always wanted to take my time and make the best music possible. I hope people will think that BLONDIE was worth the wait.

I think the greatest lessons I’ve learned so far are to be yourself and trust your ideas. Artists get so much unsolicited advice, and it can be hard to know who to actually listen to. At the end of the day, do what makes you happy and go with your gut. Don’t be afraid to fail! You can always try something different next time.

I want the world to know that I’m here to change the game with my smooth silliness. Yezzir!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In my hometown of Tulsa, I would take the homie to the Gathering Place. We could walk around, breathe in fresh air, and catch a vibe. Then we could go to the Greenwood District, home of the historic Black Wall Street, and hit up my favorite sneaker shop Silhouette. After that, we can get some pizza from Empire and a coffee at Fulton Street. Good times will be had!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wanna give a shout out to the homies Captain Dave, DJ Brae, Theone, Yung Trunkz, and Austin Ray. Thank you guys for being my support system throughout my musical journey and for helping me bring my ideas to life.
