We had the good fortune of connecting with Nessa Olmos and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nessa, what do you want people to remember about you?
I am strong. I am here because life knocked me down hard more than once. After my third miscarriage, I turned to plants to help keep me busy. It was rewarding to nurture something and watch it flourish. It did take me a couple tries. I definitely killed a lot of them. But eventually, it all works out. I enjoy growing my plants, and now being able to share them with others. I am here because I am strong. I pushed myself, I took risks, I persevered. I did it.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My mother loves plants but is a very busy woman and isn’t always able to give plants the love they need. Because of this, I was encouraged to do my best to make plant care as simple as possible, to give people like my mom a chance to exercise their green thumb. Each plant I sell or gift comes with a plant care card. Many of my customers will share their concerns with me and I walk them through everything. I offer to repot, I diagnose plant problems, and I help solve them. I’m always available for questions regarding any plant, whether purchased from me or not, and I do everything I can to help. I’m so incredibly grateful that I get to do this, and now as my job! So that’s what I’m proud of. The care I provide to plants, and to plant parents.
It’s definitely not easy. It’s a lot of trial and error, and every single day I am learning new things.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Downtown Fort Worth is truly the heart of the city. There are such a variety of things you could do in that area. Escape rooms, distilleries, restaurants. I love the Acre Distilling Company and the Scat Lounge. Just take a walk down Main or 7th and you’ll find unlimited things to do.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There is a Facebook group called Fort Worth Plant Peeps. They have been incredibly helpful, supportive, and kind from the very beginning. When I was just starting out, so many of them offered me free plants and clippings. I was blown away by the generosity of these people. Once I started my plant shop, they were supportive of that too. I’m so proud that I get to be a part of this community.
