Meet Nate Jackson | Holistic Health and Fitness

We had the good fortune of connecting with Nate Jackson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nate, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
Pursuing a good partner and starting a family was the most important contribution to my success over any of my other decisions. Men need purpose to achieve great things and I was no exception. Even though I met my wife, Christina, four years after I had founded Nate’s Raw Harvest I started my business with the goal of being able to provide for a family. The first four years I struggled to grow my brand as I still had a full time job, was a part-time father, and was not able to receive any support from family or friends. It was overwhelming. Once Christina came along her support allowed me to put my full attention into Nate’s Raw Harvest and within 6 months I was able to accomplish what I couldn’t in 4 years. Brand growth and financial stability.
What should our readers know about your business?
I founded Nate’s Raw Harvest as a desire to bring foods and snacks to the market that focused on organic quality and nutrient bioavailability. Many people suffer from digestive issues, food allergies, a general lack of nutrients, and our food industry was failing them.
Everything we make is 100% certified organic, gluten-free, sprouted and with no dairy, eggs, or processed sugar. Our focus is on organic, sprouted nuts, seeds, nut butters, and baked goods such as breads, brownies, and granolas.
In 2005 I began my career as a personal trainer at the Premier Club in Dallas, TX working with clients from the SMU/Park Cities area. My focus was always on functional strength training and nutrition and I was constantly expanding my knowledge to help myself and my clients, especially when it came to what was on our plates. I was inspired by the teachings of Paul Chek at the CHEK Institute as well as Sally Fallon of the Weston A. Price Foundation where I learned how food selection, food quality, and food preparation techniques are the key factors in nutritional success.
In 2010 I founded Nate’s Raw Harvest, my brand was on the shelves of Whole Foods Market in 2011, and began selling at local farmer’s markets and online by 2012. Growing the brand single-handedly was very slow, but by 2015, with the support of my now wife, Christina, I was able to finally go full-time into growing the brand and achieve financial stability.
Producing product by hand Sunday afternoon-Thursdays, deliveries on Fridays, farmer’s markets on Saturdays followed by sampling demos at Whole Foods Markets Saturday afternoons and Sunday mornings for many years was difficult, but when you want financial freedom and have a family to provide for you are motivated to succeed.
If I were to do it all over again, I would have put time into educating myself on long-term business growth, marketing, and seeking investors. We were one of the first on the market to offer sprouted, organic, gluten-free products and even though we are not a large company, we are still here after 15 years because our quality is unmatched and the need and desire for our products is growing every year.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I’ve got friends in town, I’m definitely going to be taking them to check out our local Farmer’s Markets. Both Coppell Farmer’s Market and McKinney Farmer’s Market at Chestnut Square are great places to really get in touch with the local businesses, farmers and ranchers that keep our area so popular with people from all over. Downtown Mckinney has all the charm of a small town with all the convenience, fun and uniqueness you’d want for families and singles alike. Habitat Plants and Coffee is a MUST for a great cup of Matcha while your stroll, The Yard is a great place for a yard games, music and a quick bite and Harvest is our favorite for a farm to table dinner. Downtown Denton is growing fast and is an ideal place to grab a cup of Kava from The Kava Bar Denton while listening to live music, playing board games with friends or just lounging on the swing. If they’ve got kids in-tow, I highly recommend beating the heat and spending the day at the Frisco Public Library or spending the day exploring Grandscape Shopping Mall and the surrounding area. Honestly, with so many options, our biggest struggle would be trying to fit everything in on their visit!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Number one would be my wife Christina, who took the reigns of our personal life (with babies) so I could push and grow my brand from a side gig of four years to a full-time business that provided for our family within 6 months. I’d also like to give credit to the various people I met as a personal trainer in Dallas that provided some form of mentorship or support including Peter Altabef, David McGarry, Scott Shafer, David Lopez, and John Hubbs.
