We had the good fortune of connecting with Natasha OhSo Wright and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Natasha OhSo, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
“Be For Women”

Three simple words that literally changed my life. 14 years ago, I started to become more spiritually sensitive and aware of energy and how it moves through me. I remember times growing up when I was always the one called to give a hug or massage a head. My hands and body were a conduit for energy to move through. As that grew within, I left the medical corporate field for something more rooted in my truth as a whole person. I went to school to become a licensed Massage therapist, and during this time I started getting this desire to have a baby or birthed something from my body. Until then my concept of birthing was limited to having a baby. It wasn’t until I was awakened in the wee hours of the morning that my Spirit team (meaning ancestors, spirit guides, aligned deities, etc.) woke me up and said that before I give birth to a baby, I must give birth to my dreams. I inquired further, what is my dream or my purpose? ” BE FOR WOMEN” “STAND WITH WOMEN!” GET TO KNOW WOMEN” and “GUIDE WOMEN” Each statement hit me like a wave of affirmation or confirmation of my being. my why! and shortly after signed up for a doula class, and with my spirit team leading I leaned into it with everything I am. That was 8 years ago. I am so proud of myself and what I am co-creating with the universe and my community.

I am a Black Spiritual Doula and Somatic bodyworker and do a multitude of other things. too! I own and operate a successful Wellness and Doula services company, The OhSo Wellness Company and The Wright Doula Co. that specializes in providing prenatal and postpartum guidance for new and expecting mothers and their families in Houston TX. We also focus on using our healing bodies to express emotions, manifest our dreams, and cultivate deeper connections with the universe and our unique place in it.

We support motherhood. Simply put, we are there for the experiences that impact those in our care at whatever stage of motherhood they may be in, from pre-conception through postpartum, fertility/infertility, and every nuance that exists within that tapestry. We believe that to support women is to raise a village. I may be controversial with this, but women are the backbone of a nation. We keep it running in the shadows and in the sun. I know that I descend from a nation of women who spoke their peace and broke through the noise of the times. So while “standing on the backs of my people, we rise a new nation.” Having a doula in your community is like having a master key to many doors all around you. We are resourceful and willing to put it on the line even if it’s only for one mother…this time. We have learned how to be of assistance and allow that to be the medicine we carry with us.

It has taken me a while to realize the interconnectedness in the experience of birth and how that is literally our collective origin. It is how we all got here, no matter the method of delivery. Wombs were our homes. Gates were opened and one day we all emerged from the darkness into the light. As an independent spiritualist that reality has deepened and shaped how I show up; noticing that through my given abilities of intuition, practiced study, and compassion, a radical empathy springs forward. With empathy comes recognition, empowerment, and then innovation, We tap into our creative essence. We become extensions of one another, creating bridges of support, a masterful webbing of nations birthing nations.

I truly had no idea what it would mean for me to be a doula or moreover that I have always been for women. My thought process is not to think much at all anymore. I spent a lot of time thinking of how to do this better, be wiser, etc. What I learned from those moments is that my mind is so expansive it will spend years thinking about how something could be but never actually put it into motion. I had awakened to the fact that Women need/require more space to be herself, or should I say her selves. A woman is many things all at once. It is important that she feels seen, thus safe, loved, and encouraged. Those are things that come naturally to me. I said I am those things. I choose now to accept the offering of surrendering to the purpose, letting myself experience with all of my senses what it means for me to feel the fullness of it. To be overwhelmed, frustrated, enamored, and captivated by how it always seems to come together. By trusting in the flow of things moving in favor to the mission “BE FOR WOMEN”

I started this business because I chose to follow women, to encourage women, to see women, to remind women, to appreciate women, to experience with them, and add to the sisterhood that heals us. To me, there was no other way and no other person better suited to do it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

How did you get to where you are today professionally?

I believe I got to where I am today because I was supposed to. I feel that I am the right person to be a conduit for the Divine to work with and through. That the visions were given to me for a reason and that provision is always there, just allow it to flow to you. That may sound passive but it’s not, there is a dispensation of life-changing knowledge, money, innovation, guidance, wisdom, and community that happens as you integrate with your purpose all things that are allotted to that level of purpose-filled, genuine enthusiastic integration. That energetic infusion creates tangible changes around you. I used to believe that suffering was the path to greatness. I am learning now that suffering is the path to suffering and that resistance is the thing that heads that path. Why would anyone resist their successes and resist the dispensations of the universe of community, because somewhere within them feels that “it cannot be that easy” when in fact it is and it can.

I remind myself that there is literally no one else on this planet who has what I have in the measure that I have; that being true of everyone else in the world being just as unique all the pretense falls away. Superiority ceases existence amongst us, only thing more superior to us is Nature. It’s a humbling thought. We are a product of that nature. I am not special and yet I am. It started me thinking Why not me? I want more opportunities that show me I can do this.

Was it easy? Easy as in came with ease no, but easy as in accessible yes.

If not, how did you overcome the challenges?

The path to seeing, accepting, living, and thriving better is accessible when you are consistent with reprogramming the mind from limiting beliefs to expansive ones that open doors inside to let the doubt out. Honoring myself meant examining my life and realizing what was working for me and what wasn’t, what was a benefit to me even if it would distance me from others. I knew I didn’t have the time to play around; time is a construct and a nonrenewable resource so practicing and learning about the universal laws helped me shape life in a more favorable according to my desires. The universal law of the mind as taught by my mentor, speaks to the fact that our thoughts, actions, beliefs, etc are all connected to the outcomes we seek. So be mindful of them. Standing in the mirror looking at myself and speaking love and success over me repeatedly helped to convince me of my greatness. Another tool and lesson is journaling- writing down your thoughts without judgment allowing the mess to flow until you find the message. I cannot tell how many notebooks I have that I still go back and find things I wrote that encourage me and liberate my mind sometimes when it gets stuck. Mantras like “I am enough” resound in my root chakra and use them when i am feeling unsure about my ability.

What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?

1. Remain rooted in your own experience while experiencing things – Remember that you are responsible for your own outcome. Do what is holistically best for you, always. especially when it feels hard. It gets easier. You will love yourself more when you do.

2. Connect with nature. We are elemental beings meaning we will find our meanings in the air, water, earth, and fire as appropriate. I love to ground by water it works for me. I often go to the forest when I need calm introspection and to hug a tree. Find what works for you and do it often

3. Connect with your ancestors and spirit guides: even if you’re adopted/displaced from your information you have ancestors and a spirit team that loves you and protects you and will help you when you acknowledge them. Take them with you through life and allow yourself to feel their touch in your life.

4. Love yourself loud enough to say yes to you! follow that sound to the next great place. It’s perfectly okay to arrive there alone, trust me it doesn’t stay that way for long. Your vibe brings your tribe.

5. Surrender is the point! From there, you can see more clearly what would truly be helpful for you. Don’t run from rock bottom, sink into it. face the fears decide if it’s really all that scary then make the next right step from there.

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
