We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Ofoegbu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nancy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started my business, I honestly didn’t know what I was doing. I kept having visions in my head of what I wanted to do and I was very passionate about fashion. I would sit and write in my notebook about the outcomes I wanted to achieve as well. It was actually my friend who helped me figure out what I wanted to do. It was my friend who encouraged me to pursue it until I realized that what I was working towards was opening a fashion styling firm.
GLO Styles is all about relationships. Not just how you look on the outside, but how you feel on the inside. I knew how to do both. I knew how to look at someone and see them for who they were and how I could make them look better, all while catering to their needs mentally. Stylists get to see people in a vulnerable state at times, there is a level of trust that comes with that. Building those relationships were so much more important to me. From then on, it became my responsibility to ensure that my client felt good about themselves.
What should our readers know about your business?
GLO Styles is a Fashion Styling Firm, we specialize in personal, event, virtual, editorial/ photoshoot, and travel/ vacation styling. G.L.O. stands for Guiding the Looks of Others, and we do just that. We work to help our clients better showcase their style. We choose to focus on who our client is as a person and how we can help them improve their wardrobe that will leave them feeling confident in themselves even after the clothes are put away. We are proud of our tenacity and the many relationships we have been able to build as a company over the last 2 years. It’s more than a company, after working with us, you are like family. We are always here to help and support.
We not only cater to clients, we also build a community for stylists. We are now offer a digital showroom where stylists can rent items from our online showroom
It has not been a smooth ride. I came into this business with no prior knowledge of how to run a fashion styling firm. All I knew was that I had the ability to take someone’s look to another level if given the right resources; the hardest part was just that-resources. When I started off, I worked for free. There were times where I didn’t even know where I would get the items I needed. I had to really hustle to find things, sometimes paying for things out of pocket. I started off doing everything by myself so it would take a huge toll on me physically.
When I had low points of no clients, I would take that time to restructure GLO Styles.
There have been so many times where I had to be my biggest cheerleader to be able to keep going because I felt like giving up.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
So I am someone who loves to EAT! So I’d first start off with a brunch spot in Dallas. One of my favorite spots for brunch is Oddfellows. After that,I would definitely take my friend to downtown Dallas. We’d first go to the Dallas Art Museum and from there, walk to Klyde Warren. For dinner, we’d go to XOXO Dining Room!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to give a shout out to Jen Iro, she was a key player in me starting my business. It was in her apartment that GLO Styles came to life. I also want to shoutout my amazing clients that I have had the pleasure of styling. I appreciate them so much for trusting me to bring their vision to life.
