Meet NANCY HOUSTON | Co-Owner, Blossom Event Center

We had the good fortune of connecting with NANCY HOUSTON and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi NANCY, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My husband, John, and I started Blossom Event Center to provide a space for families to celebrate their loved ones. In 2023, my son graduated from a local high school and we did not have very many options for his celebration in close proximity to Haslet. We had the brilliant idea of creating a space for community and celebration. Blossom was name after my husband’s grandmother. She raised 12 children, and a host of grand children and great grandchildren. She would feed and take in anyone who needed help. We thought it would be fitting to name it after her.
What should our readers know about your business?
Blossom Event Center: Our Story, Our Strength
At Blossom Event Center, every celebration should feel effortless, elegant, and unforgettable. Nestled in Haslet, Texas, our modern industrial venue offers a unique blend of warmth and sophistication—making it the perfect space for weddings, kids’ parties, corporate events, and community gatherings. But beyond the beautiful lighting, clever tech, and spacious design, what truly sets us apart is the heart behind the brand.
Blossom is a proud Black and veteran-owned business founded by a husband-and-wife duo who are both disabled veterans with a shared dream: to create a space where people feel seen, celebrated, and supported. Investors or a big team do not back us. We’ve built this business with grit, creativity, and an unwavering belief in the power of community.
Getting here wasn’t easy. We started with a vision and a 2,500-square-foot building in an industrial area, far from the glitz of major city venues. We faced skepticism, local competition, and financial strain. At one point, we considered closing our doors due to a lack of support. But instead of folding, we pivoted. We launched kid-friendly events, weekday rental packages, and digital products. We leaned into what made us different—our story, spirit of service, and connection to everyday families looking for affordable, upscale celebrations.
What we’re most proud of isn’t just the events we host—the memories we help create. From glow-in-the-dark dance parties for kids to elegant micro weddings under $5,000, we’ve become a trusted place for people to celebrate life’s most significant moments—without breaking the bank.
Some lessons we’ve learned along the way:
Authenticity wins. People support real people.
Community matters. Collaboration with local vendors and families is key.
Stay flexible. If one offer doesn’t work, try another.
Don’t wait for perfect—start with what you have.
Blossom isn’t just a venue—it’s a story of resilience, reinvention, and rising through the struggle. We want the world to know that with enough faith and fight, even the most ordinary spaces can blossom into something extraordinary.
