We had the good fortune of connecting with Nalleli Becerra and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nalleli, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
NellyBeCrafts came to be right before COVID. I had mentioned to my husband that I wanted a welcome board to place i front of my home. He was taken back from the price of the board I wanted. As we own a hardwood flooring company, he thought it was best if we built it ourselves. I agreed and feel in love with the process. I enjoyed working on it so much that pretty soon I was making for family and friends just because. I then started to make other projects, COVID had kicked in at this point. I had made enough inventory than I knew what to do with it. I came across my local farmers market and signed up. I had a great experience and so did my husband that NellyBeCrafts became a project that I have fully invested in but so did my husband. He has had the patience to show me how to properly take care of the wood from cutting, sanding to sealing my projects. Then my interest in vinyl decorated cups and etched glass mugs became another love of mine. I do have to keep up with trends in order to have something new to offer my customers, but what makes me keep going is advice from customers of what they would like to see next and the support from other vendors.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am very lucky to have the support of my family, they have been my biggest support. Without them my success would no be equal to what is is today. My crafting started as a hobby that gave me so much inventory. I had to find outlet that would let me keep making craft: I came across farmers markets and decided to get in touch with my local farmers market. I fell in love with markets. It’s always a learning experience when doing markets. Learning your audience while keeping up with trends can get trick at time. Being Hispanic helps me understand two cultures which helps me market in two different languages and styles. It also allows me to make products that have that special spark into everything I make. I truly love interacting with my customers and getting feedback on my products. That has been a real blessing to have one on one with customers in order to get advice on what would make them come back to purchase from me in the near future. I am sure there is still so much to learn, and I will continue to do my best with an open heart.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have been so lucky to have visited some of Dallas best attractions. Before my crafting business, I used to be a private nanny. That allowed me to visit some of the must see places in town, all kid friendly of course. My all time favorite place to visit is the Children’s Aquarium at Fair park. It’s is such a fun and hands on aquarium. The sting ray petting attraction is a must at this location. My next location to show off would be the Dallas Arboretum. It’s such a beautiful place. Other places to visit would be the Dallas Zoo and the Perot Museum. You just can’t go wrong with any of these attractions.. I love Asian cuisine and would definitely recommend Bistro B off Walnut St. and Audelia Rd. Near Richland College. One other place worth sharing would be Nico’s Cocina in Carrollton. Their Sunday breakfast buffet is amazing! I am not a big drinker and after running around town we would definitely have down time at my home or maybe run to a local farmers market or two.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have always been creative but I definitely would give my husband credit for his support. He is very handy and helps me make any vision I have into a reality. Not only does he help me build but also is my muscle when I have to carry everything to markets. He really is my partner in crime.
