We had the good fortune of connecting with Mylek Terry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mylek, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was that I despised a normal 9-5 job, the idea of going to work, completing a task, and being told what to do – did not sit well with me. I wanted something that I could call my own while giving me an outlet to do what I wanted to do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career is something that is worth while. If you stick with it & actually put yourself out there then you will reap the benefits. There was a moment during this journey where I did not have a single booking for 2 months.
No one was calling for inquiries or to get a quote. I had to reassess everything I was doing & create different outlets that would appeal to people,
Instead of only during full service bartending I started creating personal punches, to go punches, as well as marinated fruit jars.
This was a challenge because I felt like I was stepping into muddy waters again but sometimes you have to see what others are doing & multiply your grind!
This taught me that you don’t always have to stay in your lane when it’s two more going in the same direction.
My business became adaptable to any situation & moment. I have not faced a battle too big.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Man! That’s a loaded question & it’s extremely tough to simplify:

Trinity Groves
Deep Ellum
Lower Greenville
State & Allen
Texas Live!
Sushi Axiom
SIRG Wings & More (Best Wings in DFW)
Juicy Bones
Rosatis Pizza (Best Pizza in DFW)
Turkey DAM
Modern Museum
Truck Yard
BoomerJacks (Happy Hour Drinks)
Mi Cocina (Mambo Taxi’s)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shout-out to my Event Coordinator/Wedding Planner/Decorator Sky Mitchell with MySkyyEvents. This woman took a chance on me to vendor one of her events 3 years ago & since then we’ve done over 40 events! Whether it was pricing, invoices, scheduling, and even follow ups – she’s aided me through it all!
