We had the good fortune of connecting with Myelstone Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Myelstone, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
Pleasure Activism: The Politics of Feeling Good by Adrienne Maree Brown

I was introduced to this marvelous text after attending Sex Down South in Atlanta 2019. At that stage of my work, Pleasure Activism cemented the importance of marginalized communities intentionally cultivating and expressing pleasure as an act of resistance to oppressive systems. It affirmed and articulated a lot of feels, thoughts and concepts I had about myself and what being in my power could feel like. And, discussed relationships (platonic, romantic, etc), erotic agency, and pleasure in ways that felt like my appreciation for work of queer ancestors, like Octavia Butler and Audre Lorde, had deepened. Once I finished, I felt more grounded in TRPL X ART’s mission to celebrate Black queer pleasure through art and to create spaces for the exploration of adult play.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
TRPL X ART encourages the exploration, expression, and expansion of QTBIPOC pleasure and play, offering three features: painting, tattooing, and kinky art events.

The painting collections aim to explore the pleasure experiences of contemporary queer kinksters, s*x workers and erotic performers, with the intention to immortalize their creativity, emotion, beauty, and movement on canvas. Hand-poked tattooing aids in transforming our flesh into an expressive canvas, and creates ritualistic experiences to connect with the rich history and power of body artistry. Kinky Art Meetups welcome QTBIPOC folk in DFW to expand their creativity and community through varying art mediums and kinky fun, regardless of skill level or experience, in a comfortable and affirming space.
It has definitely been a learning curve balancing the many facets of TRPL X ART. The biggest challenge thus far has been trusting the process and finding the flow between painting, tattooing, and hosting events. There are times that feel constantly shrouded in overwhelming doubt and fear of whether I am on the “right path”. I have found that focusing on the small actions has been helpful in building consistency with my practices. Eventually, all the distinct moving parts kinda feed into one another, and help each sector to move forward and stay balanced.

TRPL X ART strives to celebrate the body, whether through events, body artistry or commissioned paintings, in a way that helps to center QTBIPOC folk and our pleasure experiences. The goal is having a web of creative avenues where kindred folks can connect about our bodies, our pleasure and interests found on our lil human journeys.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Absolute first priority is acquiring food, and I’d probably take them to the Heim BBQ nearest Trinity River. It has become essential to the FTW foodies list. New in the city are the Distillery Tours of FTW and I’ve been dying to go! Perfect way to spend an afternoon: learning about spirits, a bit of the city’s history, and enjoying wonderful food and drinks.

I love sculpture gardens, botanical gardens and arboretums, especially when visiting a new city. The Modern Art Museum in FTW’s cultural district is one of my favorite architectural structures and museums, and has a lovely sculpture garden!

Most of my nightlife of late has been spent at Infliction Hall, a BDSM social lounge and dungeon in Euless. I have brought friends and play partners along with me to visit, and the experiences we had (and witnessed) at Infliction have yet to disappoint. It’s a welcoming and thrilling spot for those who are familiar with the environment and for those who have never been, and are curious to know. It is a must stop, especially the first Friday of the month for $5 entry!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Sir Shaan Lashun is an experienced sexual health educator, organizer and leathercraftsman who has been paramount to my journey within the kink/leather community. He is the founder of Virtual Bootblack Jam, a weekly virtual communal space for new and experienced bootblacks to come together about leather care and maintenance. He is also the co-founder of Molly House Project, an organization committed to the mobilization of transmasculine, masc-of-center, and butch s*x workers nationwide. MHP events range from closed meetings and workshops, to open variety shows and panels, whose topics range from History of Black Sex Workers in US to contemporary tools to manage their businesses. You can find more information at mollyhouseproject.org or shaanlashun.com on any of his work and upcoming projects!
