We had the good fortune of connecting with Morgan Hudson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Morgan, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The biggest thing that people outside of this industry would be surprised about is the time that it takes to have a fully finished piece! Each ceramic piece takes anywhere from 1-3 weeks to go through all of the stages of drying/firing/glazing/firing again!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Something that sets me apart is that each piece is handmade, unique, one of a kind, and can stand on its own as a piece of art. I am most proud and excited about getting to do what I love doing every day, creating. I got to where I am simply by doing that. When you love what you do, that light shines in your work. Some lessons that I have learned along the way is that there are risks involved, and while they don’t always work out, the ones that do are overwhelmingly rewarding, making all of the hardship worth it. Creating art can be warm and comforting, like home, like drinking your coffee in a handmade mug!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite spots is the Dallas Arboretum, the perfect place for a brunch picnic! I would start there. Next I would take them to the Dallas Museum of Art followed by lunch at the food trucks in Klyde Warren Park, the perfect spot if you love to people-watch! In the evening, I would go to the new Meow Wolf location in Grapevine to see the most amazing interactive art. Finishing the evening, I would visit Oaklawn, where we would dance the night away in DFW’s most LGBTQ+ friendly neighborhood. Some honorable mentions for places to visit would be the Perot Museum, Reunion Tower, and (my personal childhood favorite) Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, I visited over 50 times between ages 7 and 16!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a handful of people I can attribute my success to! I wouldn’t have known I even enjoyed making pottery had it not been for my professor and advisor, Amy Gantt. I also had many professors and other artists encourage me along the way. Lastly, I would like to mention my parents for never doubting me when it seemed like my calling was to make cups and bowls for a living!
