We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Muhammad and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I believe in the old adage which says “Without Risk there is no Reward” I also have always felt that anything worth having must be worked hard for, no matter what obstacles start out in your way or are thrown in your way through your journey. Everything that I have overcome or accomplished happened because I was willing to take the risk of beating or achieving. I was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer at the age of 32 after just having my first biological child and had not I been willing to take the risks of taking chemotherapy while also still working as a self employed hairstylist I may not have been able to survive Cancer as well as provide for my family while doing so. I have been solely an entrepreneur for the past 21 years while being a single parent of 3 daughters and being willing to do that is an extreme risk within itself. Knowing that I have a daughter and had 3 young girls who would one day be women watching my every move led me to live a life of an extreme risk taker. I want my daughters to know and live by “without risks there is no reward” and that anything they set their minds and efforts to they can accomplish. I see opportunities, I make goals and the way my mind works is that I am not quitting until I achieve or I’m shown that a different path may be taken. I am currently running 4 successful companies and a big part of the success of many small businesses through my coaching and business services. I believe wholeheartedly that success comes because risks are taken and without taking them you will never realize your full potential.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I wear many hats but what I am known most for is through is my Professional and Financial services company that goes by the name of The One Nine Group Inc. One=The Beginning 9-Completion and our motto is to provide high quality, reasonably priced financial and professional services from beginning to its completion striving to provide those who are usually withheld the best knowledgable services the ability to gain them and become more financially and professionally successful. What sets us apart is that we do business smart yet from the heart meaning that we treat our clients as we would want to be treated meaning providing knowledgable, professional and ethical services all at a reasonable price point so that they too can build generational wealth for themselves and their families. My brand would be summed up into these 4 P’s “Power, Purpose, Prayer & Passion” everything that we do, provide or give comes from a element of one of the 4 P’s. Nothing that I/We do is done without stemming from one of those words. I absolutely love everything that I do, services that I provide and knowledge that I share. It gets tiring at times but it never feels like work because I’m inspired and motivated by the success I see in the lives of those that I work with. I come from a life of struggle and hard work but have always been trained and believe that “After struggle comes ease”.  I know and have been shown that my struggles pay off in achievement and success, I welcome each obstacle and I never cry over spilled milk because I know I have the skills to pour myself a new glass. It is my desire to infect all those that I work with with this mindset in hopes that they achieve all that they are willing to commit too and work hard for.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would definitely first visit as of now what is my favorite spot and they happen to be business associates as well and that is The Cigar Palace and Bar in Allen, Tx. It’s an adult laid back atmosphere for those who smoke cigars and those who don’t, its upscale, yet feels like a family spot and to top it off the drinks are phenomenal. Second, I would suggest grabbing a bite to eat with great food, drinks and atmosphere at any local Pappadeaux
The Pandemic has kind of changed what we can do inside but I love comedy so I would suggest hitting up a Friday or Saturday night show at Hyena’s in Dallas. Other than these places I would suggest a walk around downtown Dallas and check out the historical sites along with the Reunion Tower for a bite to eat and beautiful view of the city while doing so.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First shout out goes to my Mom who is now deceased but who is the direct reason why I am how I am and who I am she has always told me that I can do anything that I put my mind, effort and faith too. Second I would shout out my 1 an only biological child Me’layah who is the reason why I live, fight, strive and overcome as I know she will be who she becomes because of what she was taught and shown by me. After these two I would definitely like to shout out all the students and athletes that I was blessed to coach while serving as an educator and coach at Thornwood High School in South Holland, Illinois. Without the opportunity to work with these young people at young age I would not have realized what has now become my True Purpose. It is to teach, inspire, motivate, help and give inspiration and love to others as I know God gives to me every day. The relationships with those young people birthed the Monique Je’ Muhammad that the world sees today and for that I am more than grateful. My family and extended family play a huge role in who I am and what I do on a daily basis because they support me unconditionally and believe in me when others don’t get it or understand. I’m thankful for all those who help me through my Organization “Team Code Pink Productions, Inc.” (Keisha & Bridget) because without the staff, volunteers and those that we serve Code Pink Productions Inc. would not be able to do the things we are currently doing today in our communities.
