We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Monique, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I wanted to shine light on the difficulties faced during the college experience of low income students. I wanted to show students that although college is a privilege faced with many difficulties, there are people who have made it through, many do care about your journey. My goal would be to take those difficulties, and determine a solution that would benefit the students while alleviating some of those difficulties.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
College Elite sells memberships, subscriptions and host events to raise funds for college students. We then take those funds and give them back in the form of free care packages, giveaways, and incentives for mainly college students and occasionally the public. What started as a mere thought on paper, has grown into worldwide purpose thanks to those who believed in the vision, and supported. We started only distributing packages locally, now our packages has reached Canada and Alaska. It wasn’t easy, but with consistent promotion, someone will see it’s worth. I’ve learned that with every challenge faced, provides a new merit gained, and more respect for you and your company. I was a low income college student who was deprived of things unknowingly to my family, but with those downfalls and difficulties throughout my journey has provided better understanding to those who have now joined the journey. The insight I now have allows me to better help the future students with my programs.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Monday- enjoy the sites at the water gardens in downtown fort worth Tuesday- dinner at the restaurant in the anatole hotel Wednesday- brunch at the happiest hour Thursday- photos at the children’s park in tyler Friday- enjoy entertainment at klyde Warren park

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
