Meet Monica Vaughn | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Vaughn and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Trying to balance work, family and personal time can be challenging especially for a wife, mother of 4 and a business owner. I have learned over the years to prioritize my time and to make the most of that time. When it comes to my business I set parameters -such as specific days and hours of operational activities. It is very important to respect your time and the clients’ by ensuring that business takes place during hours that work best for you and your clients. However there will be instances where sticking within those timeframes will be challenging because of the depth of a project. I have learned that to minimize chances for burn out is to stick to set parameters. Family time is most important. I try very hard to carve out quality time with my family. Typically, Weekends are days when my family and I watch movies, play games and attend church. My personal time is equally important to me. Which is why I pray and mediate each morning when I awake and before bedtime. Followed by an evening stroll and dip in our swimming pool-weather permitting. Prayer, mediation, and exercise accompanied with at least 7 hours of sleep are what give me strength and endurance for the days ahead. Balance is necessary for everyone. It is important to our minds, bodies and spirit.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Housewarming Direct is a full service interior design company. We specialize in transforming clients’ visions to a completed beautiful reality. We spend a great deal of time with our clients that they become family. What sets us apart is our understanding of clients wants and desires. We work with all types of client budgets and design ideas-something that most interior design companies find difficult. What I am most proud of is how long I have been able to be in business and to help my clients feel at home in their own homes. We have had the privilege of being in business for almost 20 years and have connected with many families and entrepreneurs through out our process. I have had the opportunity to help and encourage others to branch off and pursue their passion of entrepreneurship. We realize that to be a successful business we need the support of great and reliable contractors and vendors. We spend a great deal seeking out talented contractors to assist with our projects. We look for vendors that provide exceptional products and services along with outstanding leadership. Throughout my career I have experienced hard times-primarily personal hardships. What helped me to overcome was persistence and prayer. I realized that fear and uncertainty can be the fuel to create new opportunities. We are always shaping our business to the needs of our clients with new product and service options for all budgets.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would visit both Dallas and Fort Worth. I like showing my friends these two areas and asking which do they prefer most? In Dallas, we would start in the Art district seeing museums and art galleries. We would start at Klyde Warren Park where we would take the trolley to Uptown. We would then go to Trinity Groves for some great Sushi and then dessert at the Cake Bar. From there we would hang out in the Design district window shopping. In Fort Worth, we would start at Sundance Square and sit while drinking Starbucks and watching the water display. We would shop at the shops along down town Fort Worth and eat Texas bar be que at Risky’s Bar Be que.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Throughout my business career, I have had many people support me and continue to support me and my business. One consistent support has always been my husband James Vaughn, Despite all the time he puts in to running his own business he still finds ways to encourage, support and even work with me on my projects.
