Meet Monica Bencomo: Certified Fitness Trainer & Speaker

We had the good fortune of connecting with Monica Bencomo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monica, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My tagline for my lifestyle fitness business–Moms Wear Heels–which is: When mom is healthy and happy, the whole family wins. I remind myself this every time I want to give up on being consistent with my self care. It reminds me that when I truly care for my mental, physical, and emotional needs, I can then show up best for my kids and husband.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Everything I aim to create, I aim to do so uniquely. Whether it’s a workout video, speech, or blog post, authenticity is the goal for me. I’ve had followers or random people tell me I “should just stick to the script” i.e. how everyone does x, y. and z, but that is boring! Life is about creating only what YOU can create. Once I learned how to overcome the voice of the critic trying to convince me to fit in rather than stand out, my career took off. Writing my book, 7 Habits of a Healthy Happy Mom, speaking at conferences, and sharing my journey on social media and my blog helped get me where I am today. I STILL have moments when I feel like quitting. Getting over social media trolls was a big one for me a couple of years ago. Now I know it’s a part of the game. If there’s anything I’d want you, awesome reader, to know about me is that being a mother to my 3 babies, and being the best wife I can be is my first mission. All other external success is bonus.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ok–I’m a bit of a nerd (proudly). So, you can find me at the library, babywearing and sipping my favorite chai tea while I check out a stack of books. If I’m not at the library, I’m usually at the park with my kids and hubby (we love Frisco Commons!)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out my MOM, Sadie. She raised 5 kids as a single mom. Although her hands were full, she always made time to teach me what she valued–reading, writing, musical instruments, cooking…She instilled in me the value of creativity, marching to your OWN beat in life, resilience, and being strong. I wouldn’t be the woman I am without her investments she made for me.
