We had the good fortune of connecting with Miranda Wilson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Miranda, what matters most to you?
Considering my environmental impact is a principle that has always been extremely important to me.
I have a problem. I can’t walk by trash without picking it up. I mean, who else is going to do that before it gets to a body of water? I constantly judge my water consumption. Couldn’t it be less? Constantly finding irony in our “disposable lifestyle”. Because after all isn’t that an oxymoron?
I think most people want to find their purpose in life. I think mine is spreading “dry” shaving to the masses in order to save water and make shaving less of a pain in the…. you know what.
I believe we can make simple changes to everyday habits and together, majorly impact eco-friendly initiatives. As they say, every drop counts. I think every small act matters.
It goes beyond recycling. We need a more proactive approach to many of the challenges we’ll be facing in the future.
Water is our most endangered precious resource. And while we don’t yet have water rationing in place, that could be the reality for the West coast in the near future. How long before we see that in Texas?
Did you know less that 3% of the Earth’s water is actually drinkable? Yet we let it run down the drain as if it wasn’t valuable and take it for granted because it flows easily from a tap.
FACT: The average shower head outputs 2.5 gallons per minute, or 20 gallons in 10 minutes if we’re being conservative.
Imagine the water saving potential by relocating a grooming hassle (no one likes anyways) to a better, more convenient and dare I say, enjoyable spot?
Through my background in product development I’m able to innovate a grooming hassle, make lives easier and less irritating (literally) AND help conserve Earth’s most precious resource.
I know I can make a difference by changing my shaving routine and want others to see that they can too.
What should our readers know about your business?
Have you ever had an idea and felt like you were hit by lightning?
That’s how I felt when I had the idea to launch Mantra Brands (DBA H2NO Shave Co.) back in 2018 after shaving in a hotel shower.
I vowed never again. I knew there was a better way and that I could make a real difference in water conservation if I could create the right formula and shine a spotlight on the benefits of dry shave gel.
While I didn’t invent dry shaving – I did wonder why I wasn’t able to find a suitable “dry” shave gel on store shelves. I bought a couple online that claimed to be dry shave gels, but they gave me irritation or left me sticky and longing for a shower.
Utilizing my product development background I created the ultimate aloe based, multifunctional “dry” shave gel. It isn’t a soap or chemical depilatory and doesn’t need water before, during, or after shaving. Although a tiny bit of water can enhance the shave experience.
I did a soft launch in February 2019 and made plans to show strangers how to “dry” shave and then…. Covid-19.
Deciding to keep going wasn’t easy. Especially since my dreams of setting up a pop-up Shave Bar vanished along with every social events for over a year.
The supply chain ripple effects due to various shutdowns made the inventory scale up process painfully slow. On top of that, how do you sell a product you can’t demo? The fear was palpable but I was confident the world needed this product more than ever. Especially after such drastic evidence of climate change played out in the news.
Sellable inventory became available in April 2021 and I began doing local pop-ups as the world opened back up. It was exciting interacting with people again and the product feedback and reception has exceeded all my expectations. We’re now available on our website, Amazon, and local stores like Creatively Beaute Goods in Ft. Worth and Renew Wellness Massage in Mansfield.
Developing a product feels like having a baby, its like an extension of yourself. You want other people to like your baby. And you want that baby to grow into a capable adult that can make a positive impact on the world and the lives of others. I sincerely hope that’s what H2NO Shave Co will grow to become.
An influential micro-brand innovating a common grooming hassle by making it less painful while saving Earth’s most precious resource.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d definitely tour the Bishop Arts district and eat all the things. We’d need almost a full week just for that! Hit up Creatively Beaute Goods off Race Street, AJ vagabonds and the crepe serving airstream Adeline.
I’d make sure to find some pop-up markets for Friday and Saturday like the Boho Market, hopefully at a local brewery.
Klyde Warren Park and the Dallas Museum of Art are a must.
And then we’d end the trip hanging out on a patio either in Arlington’s Tipsy Oak or Ft. Worth’s Velvet Taco.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Author Jen Sincero of “You are a Badass” taught me some perspective and introduced me to meditation.
My previous employers (I won’t name them but you can see who they are in my LinkedIn) all helped mold me and played some vital role in the path the universe has sent me down.
As Steve Jobs says -“You can’t connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. Because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even when it leads you off the well worn path; and that will make all the difference.”
Trying to evolve how people look at shaving seems off the “well worn path” to me, but I’m here for it.
