We had the good fortune of connecting with Miranda Deakins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Miranda, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
The way that I look at risks is that they are just a way to get you out of your comfort zone. You can never find the path to success if you stay in your own way. Risks provide a door to leave your comfort zone to find something new and exciting. We all only have one life to live, why live a boring or unfulfilled life? You can never win if you never play the game.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So for starters, I graduated with a BA in Creative Media Productions from The University of Oklahoma in 2020. I always knew I had to do something in the creative field. To be honest, the reason why I selected the degree that I did was because I wanted to learn how to use all the equipment from cameras, lighting, audio and editing skills. During college, I fell in love with the idea of becoming a content creator full time one day, so I started a YouTube channel and decided I wanted to start practicing. Long story short, I love the process of content creation and I think it is so FUN! I love that you can do anything you want and you can tell a story in your own creative vision.

Currently, I work in the film industry. It has been really eye opening to see the other half of content creation in the form of traditional media. I definitely don’t want to work in traditional media for too long, I think social media content creation is most definitely my passion. Right now, I have a small following on all of my platforms (@iMirandaD) on TikTok, YouTube and Instagram. I have a long way to go before I can make content creation my full time job but I am manifesting it everyday!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Currently, I live in Oklahoma but I am moving to Dallas in a few months and I cannot be more excited! My boyfriend and I visit his family in Prosper every few months and we always hit up some great spots. A few of my favorites are Nerdvana in Frisco, Rare Books Bar in Frisco, Denton County Brewing Co. in Denton, everything at Legacy Hall and the Star, and by far my absolute favorite is Pappas Bros. Steakhouse in Dallas. Hitting up breweries and great food spots are my favorite activities for sure.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have always been inspired by YouTubers. Specifically: Alisha Marie, LaurDIY, Taylor King (TK), MissRemiAshten, and Payton Sartain. They all are so driven and dedicated to their craft, and they inspire me everyday to chase my dreams no matter what and to never settle for mediocre content.
