We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, what do you think makes you most happy? Why?
Nothing makes me happier than helping others fulfill their dreams and reach their goals to be the best they can be. Whether that’s a student’s first solo, getting their pilot’s license, or adding a multi-engine rating so they can buy and fly a jet, helping others make their dreams come true while making them safe pilots for life is incredibly rewarding.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our business is Diamond Flight Center of Texas here in the DFW area from the Arlington Municipal Airoport. We provide Flight Training services different from most flight schools focusing on 3 areas: 1) All Diamond Aircraft that are newer Technologically Advanced Aircraft that are well maintaned, 2) Quality Instruction, 3) High customer service with tailored True Best Value training offerings. Most market forces in this capital intense and high insurance costs drive to older, lower cost aircraft. We’ve found a strong business approach with our 3 focus areas that pulls people from all over the country to our facility for training. We also offer factory training to new Diamond aircraft owners. While most flight schools contracted or even went out of business during the Pandemic we actually grew with our business model. In fact, as a result of the pandemic many business people from accross the country moved to buying and flying aircraft themselves. Those customers gravitated to the newer, very safe, easy to fly, advanced Diamond Aircraft. While our area of expertise for several years focused on Multi-Engine and Instrument training we’ve now grown to offer all pilot training ratings. In fact, some customers are litteraly buying new aircraft without ratings and coming to us for all our training. Another differentiator in our offerings is tailored instruction from both younger and seasoned flight instructors all of whom are well trained in our all Diamond Aircraft fleet.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a flight school we emphasize the great Aviation attractions and activities in the DFW area. Of course we recommend staying in the many great hotels near our Arlington Municpal airport that is very close for our out of town custoemrs flying into the DFW airport. Our top Aviation recommendations inclued the Vintage Aviation Museum at the Fort Worth Meachum airport, American Airlines CR Smith Museum and the Commemorative Air Force Headquarters at Dallis Excutive airport, For local quick place to eat we recommend Torchy’s and for longer sit down meals the Hacienda Ranch and special occasion the Reunion Tower Restaurant to see the sights including- airplanes taking off from Love or DFW Airports. To mix flight training and dinner for our customers we’ll fly them to the original Hard Eight Barbeque in nearby Stephenville, TX where they will come pick you up at the airport. Sure they are located in the DFW area too — but mixing flying and dinner to the original location still has a special Texas offering.

Our students holding their paper, temporary FAA certificates for their ratings – of course with happy smiles on!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My wife Lora, who put her flying dreams on the shelf after we were first maried to have/adopt, and raise our 7 children leading them and homeschooling them while I served in the Military as Pilot flying over the world sometimes for many months away, Then when our children were older after I retired from the USAF, she took up flying again and actually started our flight school training business. Now its her turn to be out front as our family’s aviation professional as an Airline Pilot while I lead our flight school.
