We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Dean and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michelle, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Since starting my journey of becoming an entrepreneur, my views on taking risks have changed drastically.

In general, the word risk can have a negative connotation. And for good reason! There are some risks that we can take as individuals that are not wise and can end up costing us everything.

But I believe there is such a thing as reasonable risks as well. If we never take a risk of any sort, how will we learn? How will we grow and do things we’ve never done before? How will we see change?

I took a risk when I decided to start writing books and created my own business called Blessed Is She. We exist to provide faith-based products such as books and devotionals to Christian women from all walks of life. I had never written a book before when I came across a book-writing course. When I saw the course, I knew I had to take it. I knew it would be life-changing for me. So I paid the money and took the course.

Then, I had to take another risk. Writing my first book! Deciding to go for it and step out on faith to write my first book was undoubtedly a risk! I didn’t know how it would turn out or if people would even want to read it, but I moved forward anyway.

Now, I have written several other books, and I give all glory for that to God!

So my answer is yes, risks are necessary if you want to grow, change, and do things you never thought you could do before! It’s time to step out of our comfort zones! But taking the right risks is key.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a Pediatric Registered Nurse. I have been in pediatric nursing for 13 years, specializing in gastroenterology and liver transplant care. Wow, what a journey this has been! Nursing is not for the faint of heart!

I am most proud of the connections and friendships I was able to make over the years. It often takes a multidisciplinary team to care for complex patients in the hospital setting, and it matters who is on your team.

It can be an incredibly rewarding career, but it also comes with its fair share of challenges. Seeing pediatric patients who are sick and families who are stressed with an array of other emotions in these situations can become very heavy.

If not for my faith in Jesus and being able to pray for all the patients and problems encountered on a day-to-day basis, I do not believe I would still be a nurse today.

I learned many lessons along the way, but two of the most valuable ones are to always treat others how you want to be treated and to continuously operate with integrity.

I want people to know that stepping out on faith can change your life. It changed everything for me!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
How fun! We would do an array of things such as museums, restaurants, parks, etc.

First, we would go to The Perot Museum in Dallas, especially if she has kids. It’s a fun museum for both adults and children.

Next, we could eat a Delucca Gaucho Pizza! It’s the best and offers an upscale dining experience with all-you-can-eat pizza and dessert pizzas as well.

We could also visit Klyde Warren Park if the weather permits, which is a nice little park in the middle of downtown Dallas.

And let’s not forget about Fort Worth Stock Yards which offers fun for the whole family and has so many restaurants to choose from.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes, I agree!

I would love to highlight the support, love, and encouragement of my mother, Yvonne Anderson. My mom has been there for me in ways no other person has. Deciding to step into entrepreneurship as an already full-time, working, single mother juggling multiple responsibilities was not easy. My mom has stepped in and helped in so many ways. I know if she had not been there for me, I could not have done it. So, I just want to acknowledge her love, support, and appreciation for the person she is to me.
